Spotlight On NPC Bikini Fitness Competitor: Maria Gudjonsdottir
From high school bikini winner to Jr. Nationals overall figure champ Megan Olson is hitting the pro scene full steam ahead. Watch out for her! She is putting in work!
After competing for six years and fussing with different hairstyles for the stage, I have adopted a less-is-more attitude and have found that the NPC and IFBB judges seem to prefer a more natural look in competitors these days. There is no reason to fuss incessantly over one’s hair unless someone is going for a rat’s nest look. The more natural a style is, the better it looks onstage and the more it flatters a competitor’s facial features and physique without distracting the judge’s eye from essential judging elements.
The 2014 Olympia Weekend has come and gone, along with the myriad predictions made by handicappers amateur and professional that dot the media landscape before the show. It's like one of those How-Much-Do-You-Know-About (fill in the blank) quizzes your Facebook friends are getting 100 percent on, except no one gets scored—and no one is called to account for not getting it right. My own picks in the women's divisions were immortalized on the "The Fitness View," on September 10, and in the October ’14 Iron Man. Plus, I ’fessed up to some things during our live Olympia play-by-play on Friday night—with Dave Palumbo, Chris Aceto and Lonnie Teper—at RxMuscle.com, so I can't hide.
To celebrate breast cancer awareness month I decided that holding an ax overhead would be appropriate for the occasion! I’d love nothing more than to take this ax and smash cancer in the head if such an action were even possible. This is more like the reaction I had when first diagnosed with stage one breast cancer!
Spotlight on IFBB Womens Physique Pro: Twana Barnett-Ferguson
Mother. Daughter. Sister. Friend. Competitor. Human. Another life affected by Cancer…
To say she is stunning would be an understatement. To say she is strong, fierce, focused, determined, passionate and a fighter… that would sum her up in a nutshell, but only a small one. Canadian IFBB Pro Melanie Gardner is all of that and more. And to those who have known her, she has always been those characteristics. To those who have gotten to know her over the last few years within the health and fitness industry, that would sum her up perfectly. But to the group that has gotten to know her and her journey this last year and half would say that Melanie is bigger than all of that. She is an inspiration, a hero, a survivor and someone who would not give up doing what she does best… living.
