What is your favorite contest prep recipe?

It’s quite a simple recipe actually. However, what takes it up a notch is I put up a “do not disturb” sign when it is time to eat it. It’s not just enough to have a favorite recipe. When it’s time to eat it, it’s about having a quiet moment to truly enjoy it! Pair me up with Oats and a scoop of protein, and I’m in HAPPY Heaven!!

What part of your physique are you currently working on?

After my last show, I received feedback from the head judge about my Back – wider lats and more density. That said, I will be working all body parts to ensure I maintain symmetry throughout. My entire physique is under construction!

Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you.

The best piece of nutrition advice I have received has been about hydration!! I keep myself thoroughly hydrated by drinking at least 2 gallons of water a day. It’s actually become a daily challenge for myself! A second piece of great advice I have received is about using my full grip when I train. It’s unbelievable how it has altered how the weight feels when I am lifting. Additionally, it has significantly increased my grip strength.

SPS 7932If you could compete in one other event (IFBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini) which would it be and why?

It would definitely be Fitness! I am in complete awe of those high flying women! Their strength is unreal, and their skill is extremely inspiring! I love the routine aspect that Physique affords me, so Fitness would be great for this as well. Our routines allow us an opportunity to really showcase our talent.

Why the IFBB?

The IFBB is consider to be the most competitive stage in Bodybuilding. As with anything in my life, I crave to be challenged. I crave to hang with the best. The IFBB is the best stage in the world for bodybuilding. That’s my “Why”!

What do you like best about competing?

LoL! Is there a limit to how much I can say? Man, what don’t I like. That would likely be the shorter answer. There is sooo much I LOVE about this sport. To me, the competition is just a part of this sport. It definitely is not everything. Stepping on stage is like “the icing on the cake” for me. The journey of this sport is what I LOVE most. The great people I meet and get to network with is at the top of the list. Some of the closest and greatest friendships have were born in my fitness life. I LOVE the challenge that this sport puts in front of me! The fact that I need to continually improve drives my passion for this sport. I LOVE the discipline that it has brought into my life. I LOVE how the sport “stretches” me beyond limits I previously thought were impossible to attain! Lastly, I LOVE being able to prove to others that with the right amount of hard-work and heart, anything is possible!! Lastly, I LOVE being able to give back by helping other aspiring athletes with their stage presence. I host posing and stage presence workshops that target most categories, choreograph Physique routines, and offer private or small group posing sessions. The ability to give is back is truly inspiring and leaves me feeling so fulfilled when I see others being able to “bring” out their inner greatness through their posing.

What are your goals for the future? Aiming high here… since you asked… my goal is to defend my title at least once at the Olympia’s!!... I’m simply projecting what I hope to reflect one day!! J

SPS 8093sNext competition: I plan to apply to the Arnold’s now that Women’s Physique has been added. So, I’m hoping to compete the weekend of March 5-8, 2015.

Hobbies:

My fitness life is my key hobby. Over and above that, I love reading a great mystery novel. Even then, it’s usually when I’m hitting a cardio session!! LoL!

What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is something that I have applied to all aspects of my life: “Strive to be better, not the best!” Being better implies continuous improvement. Being better means that the journey to the top is never-ending. No matter what I’ve placed in a show, the first thing I’ve done either before leaving the venue, or in the days immediately following the comp is to seek feedback from the judges. I load this feedback into my arsenal, put my “under construction” sign up and get back to work.

What is your favorite contest prep supplement?

For the most part, I supplement the same way all year round. The only thing that I may add during my prep is a fat burner. My go-to is Ripped Freak. I’ve loved it for years and it is the most effective one that I have tried.
