2010 Europa Supershow Figure, Fitness & Bikini Preview

europa 09This weekend the bodybuilding and fitness industry will descent upon Dallas Texas for the Europa Supershow, an affair that has become one of the premier events of the summer. Promoters Ed and Betty Pariso pull out all the stops in the third of their Europa pro-am shows; the Dallas Supershow being the original and in their home state of Texas -  so expect nothing but the best for athletes and fans alike. The Dallas Convention Center will host a huge expo with plenty of events to compliment the action on the IFBB stage. For the ladies of figure, this is the last chance to qualify for the Olympia and we will have what I expect to be the biggest line-up of the season with 35-40 IFBB Figure Pros taking the stage. This is also the final chance for fitness competitors to receive an Olympia invite, and with increasingly fewer fitness shows each year, the Supershow has become grounds for an intense fitness competition. Last but not least, the IFBB Bikini Pros will have two shows after this leading up the Olympia, but none as deep and prestigious as the Europa Supershow.

The divisions are stacked and being in Texas should eliminate the east coast/west coast advantage (which is BS) that is always discussed. It’s going to be hot outside and on stage….here are some ladies from each division to look out for:

IFBB PRO FIGURE

Ava Cowan: after a fourth place finish last week at her highly anticipated pro-debut, Ava looks to crack the top-3. She has no shortage of muscle and needs to make sure she presents herself impeccably to maximize her shape.

Monica Mark-Escalante: she pulled out a 6th place finish at the Harford Europa, but I think she still needs to streamline her muscular physique to crack the top 5 in this line-up.

alicia harrisAlicia Harris: she brought her best ever package to the Jacksonville Pro last week and I don’t see that changing. It’s funny how you can talk to a competitor and just know they have “it.” I spoke to Alicia at the USA’s a week before Jacksonville and she had a confidence and positivity about Jacksonville that resonated with me as I walked away. When you have it and know it, it shows on the stage.

Candice John: steady improvement since joining Team Bombshell, Candice is a threat for the Top 5 if she can get just a little tighter.

Julieann Kulla: always a Top-3 threat, Julieann was off her best at her 2010 debut in Hartford. I wouldn’t expect her to bring that same physique and with three weeks of work she could have made the changes to challenge for the win.

Kristin Nunn: she displayed a Top-5 physique in 2009, but in Hartford a few weeks ago Kristen was way off. I will be curious to see how much improvement she has made.

Mindi Smith: she won her pro-debut in Phoenix this year and grabbed 4th at the Arnold.   Mindi is the favorite on paper and has been putting the work in the get ready for another mindi smithwin. Mindi carries a striking blend of beauty and shape that won’t be beat if she is on.

Gina Trochiano: always conditioned and prepared, Gina is still looking for the perfect blend of conditioning without getting too hard.

Terri Turner: this is always one of the toughest ladies to predict. She carries a more petite frame with great lines and a great smile. Some judges love it and some think she’s too small….we’ll see what they think in Dallas.

Rosalind Vanterpool: I don’t think she’ll win or even come near the Top-5, but Rosiland carries on the most pleasing structures in the IFBB and seems to be penalized for her muscle. One of these days the right mix of judges are going to place her.

Josie Zamora: the 2010 Jr National Champion is still looking for an Olympia bid and it’s not out of reach. I’d like to see some more swag and confidence on stage to tell the judges that she deserves it.

IFBB PRO FITNESS

myriam capesMyriam Capes: Myriam is my favorite going in and she always has one of the most entertaining routines. She was second last year and that was because someone by the name of Adela showed up….this time its Myriam’s show to lose.

Autumn Edwards: pro-debut for the 2010 Jr Nationals Champion autumn edwardswho surprised us all with her Wizard of Oz routine. Let’s hope she’s taken the time to bring a new routine to a new level of competition.

Cinzia Clapp: another pro-debut, Cinzia is always in shape and brings a fun and dynamic routine.

Shannon Meteraud: Shannon grabbed two victories in early 2009 and 7th at the Fitness Olympia. She has been laying low since then and I have to assume that will work to her advantage. A competitor as great as Shannon doesn’t come unprepared and the break was probably just what she needed to come back even better. Shannon will push Myriam and Bethany for the win.

Bethany Wagner: always one of the best physiques in fitness (she can hang with the best of figure), if Bethany nails her routine she can walk away with the win.

IFBB PRO BIKINI

Amanda Latona: the former Flex Bikini Model Search winner is looking for her first pro win. She grabbed third at the Muscle Contest earlier this year, but the bikini division has grown and evolved a lot since then.

nethaia meloNathalia Melo: the favorite coming in, she’s undefeated and was called the standard of the new bikini division earlier this year. Will she be in shape and is she still the standard with some new faces on the scene?

Monique Ricardo: Monique Minton got married and got a new last name. It will be interesting to see her against some of the top placing east coast girls. She is a Texas girl and home field advantage never hurts.ali rosen 2

Alison Rosen: two weeks and two wins! Three in a row is in reach and the only lady I can see in her way is Nathalia. Ali is taller and has striking curves to match her big smile. It might be enough to de-throne Nathalia and keep her streak alive going into the Olympia.
