Sucralose Can Increase Insulin Productionsplenda
Calorie free artificial sweeteners are used in all sorts of food and beverage products as a “healthier” alternative to sugar. Products such as Splenda (Sucralose) can be up to 300 times sweeter than table sugar but claim not to have the same damaging effects as sugar because they don’t cause the body to secrete insulin. Researchers at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine in St. Louis have just found that consuming Sucralose can cause up to a 20% increase in the production of insulin. Researchers designed a study that tested each participant twice. On the first visit participants consumed a glucose beverage, and on the second they consumed a Sucralose beverage. What they found was that following consumption of the Sucralose beverage insulin levels rose nearly 20%, disproving the myth that Sucralose has zero impact on metabolism.

Good news, scientists are in the process of developing RNA laced bandages that will reduce the healing time of chronic wounds that just won’t heal. Short RNA molecules, known as oligonucleotides, will be able coated on bandages to be delivered exactly where they’re needed on the body. As the bandages dissolve the RNA molecules will be safely delivered to the right cells potentially speeding recovery time.

Breast Milk Protein Reduces Antibiotic Resistance
Scientists at the University of Buffalo have discovered that a human breast milk protein complex known as HAMLET has the ability to reverse antibiotic resistance, a problem that’s steadily become more common over the last few decades. During lab experiments that included both petri dish and animal studies scientists found HAMLET expressed the ability to increase bacteria’s sensitivitbreastfeedingy to antibiotics in multiple classes. According to lead researcher Laura Marks “The effect was so pronounced that bacteria including penicillin-resistant S. pneumoniae and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) regained sensitivity to the antibiotics they were previously able to beat.” Scientists are now optimistic that HAMLET will have the ability to limit the concentrations of antibiotics needed to fight infections.

Anabolic Steroids May Affect Future Mental Health
A new study released by the British Journal of Sports Medicine between the use of anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) and reduced mental health later in life. The study, which was conducted by the University of Gothenburg’s Centre for Education and Research on Addiction, tracked 700 former Swedish wrestlers, powerlifters, weightlifters, and throwers who competed at the elite level between 1960 titus042and 1979. 'We found a clear link. AAS users were more likely to have been treated for depression, concentration problems and aggressive behavior,' says Claudia Fahlke, director at CERA. The study also found that AAS users were also more likely to have abused alcohol and other elicit drugs. Researchers are still unclear as to whether it was AAS use that caused mental health issues. This study does reintroduce a few age old questions – Does bodybuilding attract crazy people? Or does bodybuilding turn people crazy?

Omega-3 Supplements Reduce Exercise Induced Asthma
A unique omega-3 supplement derived from New Zealand green-lipped mussels has been shown to reduce inflammation and airway constriction in those suffering from exercise induced asthma according to researchers at the University of Indiana. The study, which appears in the journal Respiratory Medicine, found a 59% improvement in lung function, a reductiasthma-inhalerson in airway inflammation, and an overall reduction in asthma symptoms following supplementation. Researchers are now planning to explore the benefits of the rare omega-3 compound on delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and delayed onset muscle damage (DOMD), speculating that the unique compound could have unknown benefits for improving athletic function.
