Get Over It




Like hurdlethe achievement of anything worthwhile your pursuit of a sexy, healthy and lean body is going to be met with a few obstacles.  Your ability to successfully hurdle all those obstacles will mean the difference between success and failure, frustration and celebration.

A man who knows a thing or two about getting over hurdles once said - when asked about tapping into potential -

       When asked about “potential” legendary Olympic Gold Medalist Edwin Moses once said:

          “Lots of people let it go by… and never accomplish what they want.”



Moses knew that during any given race he would have to face and get over 10 specifically spaced hurdles, to get to the finish line and exploit his potential - you don’t have the luxury of being able predict how many, what kind or even when or where you’ll encounter your obstacles.
Which put’s your first obstacle – and it’s a BIG one - directly on your path. 



UNCERTAINTY
Studies have shown that most people would rather deal with a less than positive outcome NOW rather than wait and have to face the unknown even if the outcome might be more positive down the road.

Which is why, unconsciously we would rather slip back into the certainty of our familiar habits and behaviors than risk the uncertainty of what might happen even if we were successful at achieving our objective. 


Getting over your first 2 hurdles

Uncertainty can invoke doubt and the two together will likely spawn fear.  
FEAR, is hurdle number two and the thing that stops most people from achieving their potential.

So to eliminate fear from the equation we need to have certainty and since we can never predict with any real level of accuracy what obstacles we’re going to face – fear, to one degree or another, will always be part of the success equation.

Therefore the mindset you need to adapt to get over your first two hurdles and all the other unpredictable obstacles you will encounter – is one of knowing that no matter what you face you will, CAN and MUST handle it… period.  

 



Here are 5 tools for developing a hurdlers Mindset:

  1. Never ever, ever give into frustration. Know that with enough behavioral flexibility there is always a way over, under, around or through the obstacle.
  2. Commitment is key! When you’re fully committed to the goal nothing can stand in your way.
  3. Steady the wheel. Like a strong wind threatening to blow you off course, you may not face all your obstacles head on and may get blindsided now and then. Steady the wheal and keep your eyes on the road ahead.
  4. Develop staying power. Even though size may matter it’s staying power that will ultimately get the job done.
  5. Get over it. When dealing with the internal emotional obstacles like fear, doubt, uncertainty and lack of worthiness, the best advice I can give you is to freaking get over it and keep moving forward.
