Differences and Resulting Drama in The Fitness Industry

The Derek Chaincyclical nature of things is very real and no different within the fitness community. One thing that seems to come to the forefront every so often is drama, but it certainly doesn’t have to! It seems anytime there is a mass of people doing one thing that spreads rather fast, many are waiting to combat it without even really looking into it. We must remember that there really aren’t a lot of absolutely brand new things being done; they just may have not been done in great numbers previously or in a while. We must also remember that for something to catch momentum there really must be something to it and that is where we should focus our efforts!

We all are individuals, yes, but the general concepts of how our bodies function are very similar and this is why we are able to diagnose, treat, and prevent many diseases and illnesses, but where we tend to differ the most is in our application and outlooks. This is where it is really best to remember that a world of hard and fast “rules” is a world that will not survive for the long haul; what was once new will be old and what was once old will be new again!

There are many different programs, outlooks, philosophies on fitness that are great, not all of them are right for all people and you know what? There is absolutely nothing wrong with that! There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing something a certain way if it works for you and someone else doing something else completely different. We actually can learn a lot by taking just what works for us and discarding the rest, but by blindly discarding things or looking differently upon someone else for their choice of modality is very wrong!

The underlying principles of fitness are really the same and we are all in this together. As long as someone isn’t doing something outright malicious and/or illegal there is nothing wrong with simply agreeing to disagree, learning from one another, and making the entire fitness community that much better for it! Oh, and probably learning a thing or two in the process.

I have so much respect for anyone that truly works to make this wonderful world of fitness better and while I may not agree with some methods, I see that they do work for some people and from that I have developed my methods to work with the people that I attract. Remember, we get back what we put out, so as long as we remain true to ourselves we will always be surrounded by what we want and if we are not, we would do best to look at what we are putting out.

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know everything and there are even things that I don’t know that I don’t even know… But, what I do know is that by learning and growing from one another we can expand our knowledge as a whole and thus be able to keep making this wonderful thing called fitness, just that… wonderful!

“We cannot learn from one another until we stop shouting at one another, until we speak quietly enough so that our words can be heard as well as our voices.” – Richard M. Nixon

Thank you to all who take the time to read my words. If they are able to help just one person then I am that much closer to my goal!
