Candice Keene Back In Prep: “Finding Your Focus”

Candice Keene Back In Prep: “Finding Your Focus”

Hey Guys!

candice k7 (2)Hope everyone is having a great start to 2012!  The first week has already flown by, and the Arnold is quickly approaching.. 7weeks! Excited to get this season up and going!  As the New Year turned over, I started reflecting a lot from 2011 and thought about what I would like to achieve in 2012.  I, like many other people, kind of felt in a short-term limbo.  It’s normal; new year, new reflection, new thoughts…and yes, new worries.  We all do it.  I always seem to be somewhere in my prep mode around this time, so my emotions can sometimes get affected more so than other times of the year.  I had a short 2-week spurt of a frequency change in my thoughts, my motivation level, my concentration, and my confidence.  But I caught it, analyzed all the associating factors and FIXED IT!!!  I can now confidently say, “I caught it and kicked it to the curb! CK is back and gears are now shifted into overdrive!!” :)

But then that got me wondering… What cause these cyclical patterns of self worth/self doubt??  I say ‘cyclical’, because I notice I always catch myself wandering that way this time of year.  Honestly, I think it is because of having four weeks off of school (I work better in routine..), which kind of threw me off in a way.  Also, some people either get really up or down during the holiday season.  This can be from a various different reasons, though.  But really…what causes such a drastic shift in mood/thought patterns/feelings in such a short period of time, that can hinder one’s focus?

I think there are a lot of triggers for this actually:  both internal and external.  As for internal, we all have those annoying and distracting thoughts that seem to take over in our minds.  Some days, these thoughts can totally throw you off track, ruin your day and productivity level, and just put you in a downward spiral.  This is no good if you are on your way to achieving a goal.  As competitors, we need our full focus to reach our ultimate goal with 100% success.  These distracting thoughts can come in several of forms.  They can just be “daydreamer” thoughts, or our “to-do” thoughts, or those evil little “negative thoughts.”  Those negative ones have to be destroyed immediately though!  Being distracted with these kinds can produce self-doubt, diminish your self-confidence and just produce damaging outcomes.  It is easy to put a handle on all these distracting thoughts:  Your “daydreamer” thoughts are goals… write them down!!  Your “to-do” thoughts are the tasks that need to be done…make a to-do list and stick to it.  Add to it every time another to-do pops into your head.  Now with those dirty little negative ones.. kill them off.  Remind yourself what your ultimate goal is, and focus on that.

Also, remind yourself of your personal greatness  and your passion.  We all know what we have and what we are working with; accentuate those positive attributes.  If you compete or have fitness goals, you already know you are a strong-willed individual.  Go that extra mile and vamp up your inner self.  Tell yourself personal positive affirmations every day.  Know and be confident in your ability; there is nothing wrong with boasting your self- esteems a bit.  **Just remember though**.. There IS a difference between confidence and cockiness.  The ladder trait will make any beautiful person ugly.  Or what’s that saying?..”Keep your head held high, but your nose at a friendly level” :)

Another good way to banish doubt is to reflect on your past successes and experiences.  Remind yourself where you have been and what you had to go through to get there.  Try to remember the state of mind you were in.  I do that a lot; I find this helps very well.  I remember myself getting and remaining in “my zone”; where every external distraction was just background noise.  *Bottom Line*:  When you are going through a spurt of self-doubt in yourself or in your aspirations of your goals, losing your focus, notice your confidence dwindling, or just plain distracted… Find those triggers to get you back in your zone, and stay in that zone.  And most importantly.. Believe in Yourself!!! Believe in your ability and your potential, and the sky’s the limit! :)rx

Greatness lives inside each and every one of us.  Find it!  It’s who we are. And Don’t forget.. Learn, Grow, And Connect!

Until next time! .. xoxo ..CK
