Meet National Level MP Competitor Scott Clifton

0b94e4c6b68d03151ed8d9a69ceacdfbWe are here with Scott Clifton.  Congrats on a great showing!  We understand you are 1st Overall pacific USApreparing for The Nationals in Miami now.  Before we get too far ahead of ourselves though let's cover the basics.  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?
First off, Thank you!!!!! My old coach had told me that I would do better and go a lot further doing Men’s Physique instead of Bodybuilding. I’m coming from Pro Wrestling and my dream since I was in Middle school was to be in a Fitness Magazine. I have always been very competitive at every sport I've played. I thought by competing in the past would get my body into the shape I need to be photo ready while at the same time competing against other guys. Doing competitions gave me a goal and deadline to be in shape. Something to follow and in order to win you have to follow your program and most of all be dedicated and sacrifice. Men’s Physique is perfect, because it is the more attainable look that potential sponsorship companies are looking for.

Can you tell us a little about the Competition you recently competed in?
It was Pacific Usa’s In Anaheim Ca. A Jon Lindsay Promotion.
I took Overall and 1st Place in Class C. It was a tough class with some great competitors! The Overall runner ups gave me a run for my money. I was sweating what little water I had in my body during the decision of Overall!

How did you feel after pre-judging?
I felt great! Being called 1st in 1st call out and leaving the stage in the middle is a pretty good sign. But I always expect the worst and hope for the best! And the best happened.

How did you feel about the final results of the show?
I felt it was a great decision! I poured all my heart into training and busted my butt! And coming from a last call out from the USA’s 2 weeks prior I was happier than a dog eating S***! I was nervous going up against the overall runner ups because they looked great! They were also great guys behind the scenes.  But in the end, I brought what they wanted and went home with the sword.

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?
I think it’s a great Idea! I’m surprised they didn’t have it long time ago. It’s not as extreme as bodybuilding, but it shares the same concept and it's more to just dieting, working out and throwing on some Board shorts! I think it’s a little tougher if you ask me. You have to have a proportioned and great physique, but not be too big, nor too small. Be defined, but not shredded or grainy. I'm a balls to the wall type of guy and don’t know how to take it easy or slow down. So you have to find out exactly what works for your body to be what they consider is the right Men’s Physique. It has done a lot for my career. I have done fitness modeling, my wrestling career has been looked at and have some other things lined up. When you’re a winner people recognize you and you become a prospect to a number of opportunities. Sponsors, Fitness Modeling and even acting. Not only is it my lifestyle now, but it will be my career and lead to more opportunities.

What peaked your interest in training?
Being out of shape and overweight in High school lead to playing sports and then later on to Personal Training and bodybuilding.
I used to look through Muscle Mags in High-school and wanted the abs and body that the Fitness Models and athletes had. Having a great physique has lead to other opportunities such as wrestling and acting.

Who influences/influenced your training?
Growing up I was always into bodybuilding and sports. People like Arnold Swartzenegger, Dorian Yates, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and The Rock influenced me to excel in sports and set a path of fitness for my future.  My trainer now, Stan McQuay is a big influence. I used to see him in magazines back in High school and wanted to have a Physique like his. He is also a mixed nationality like myself and made it seem possible to become successful in the industry. Now 10 years later he is my trainer and Mentor. I feed off his energy and his great success in the fitness industry. It has driven me to greater levels of expectations with myself.

Becoming a Pro Physique Competitor and being # 1! By being the best you are opened to more opportunities that can lead to further success. Might as well excel as far as you can by doing something you love to do. It's more than just following a diet and lifting weights. It's dedication and sacrifice. My life has changed from taking shots of alcohol to scoops of protein.

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:
I wasn’t always in shape. That up until HS I was the cute chubby kid. It was when I started playing sports that started the beginning of my body transformation. I encourage people to try to live a healthy lifestyle. The better you feel about yourself, the better your life will be.
