Meet Art Ortiz: NPC MP Competitor

We are here with Art Ortiz. Congrats on a great showing!photo (6) What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

Thank you Ian! I have trained hard many years for sports and recently I have been training with no purpose just training to train. I had two friends compete in men’s physique and I saw how much fun they had and thought it was time to train for a reason and join the fun. Men’s physique gave me a new reason to train hard and to set new goals.

Can you tell us a little about the Competition you just competed in?

I competed in the southern California men’s physique in San Diego B-Class. There were a lot more guys then I expected and some great physiques. I didn't know what to really expect but everyone was so friendly and helpful it made everything easy and enjoyable. For my first show I had a great experience and I am hooked and looking forward to competing in many more shows.

How did you feel after pre-judging?

I didn't know what to think after pre judging I had so many mixed thoughts so many questions and critiques on myself and my performance (did I smile enough? Did I squeeze tight enough? Did I squeeze too tight?  How were my angles? Did I miss a spot on the stage? Did I make any funny faces? Etc.) It wasn't till a friend of mine who was in the stands came to me and told me I did really really well for my first show. At that point I was able to breath normal and eat my steak.

How did you feel about the final results of the show?

I thought the final results were fair and I respected and agreed with the judges decisions. After seeing some pix I know what Adjustments I need to make to better myself for the next show.

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?

I think the  men’s physique division is going to be the next big thing. From watching my friend compete in his first show to competing in my first show I have seen this division grow and it's only going to grow bigger. I am very excited to be a part of men’s physique and looking forward to competing many more times. I see this turning from something fun to a lifestyle and career for me.... It's time to start my road to my pro card!

I have a 3 year old little girl and she keeps me motivated to work harder and do my best. It's not just about winning (even though she already took my trophy and put it in her room and already asked for another) but it's also about living a long healthy life so I don't miss a day with her....
