Meet Douglas Peaney: NPC MP Competitor

We are here with Douglas “PhysiqueFreak” Peaney…prejudging mets 063Congrats on a great showing! What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division? Well after years of competing in bodybuilding as a teen and into my early 20’s I was always told that a have a “great physique.” I had done decently well at the bodybuilding shows but never was able to put on that “extra mass” that will really take a bodybuilding career to the next level. I’m a taller leaner guy with great symmetry and proportion so I figured I may have what it takes to be a new face to follow in the Mens Physique Division.

Can you tell us a little about the Competition you just competed in?

My Most recent competition was this past Saturday, the Junior Nationals in Chicago. It had many competitors and a great big venue. It was definitely a learning experience.

How did you feel after pre-judging?

Coming into the Junior Nationals as an IFBB PRO CARD Runner Up Behind Ryan Hughes and In Front of Steve Cook @ the Junior USA’s, I had brought my A game to this contest. I was told by a judge I needed to be leaner, so I came in leaner, harder, fuller and with better color and a cooler hair cut (HAHA) and in all, my best physique I’ve ever brought to any stage. My confidence was through the roof that I would do very well in this competition. During Prejudging I did not get a call out as I expected to. I had a lot of emotion running through me at that time. I will be bringing my “A Game to this next contest and I have faith that I’ll do better.

How did you feel about the final results of the show?

Finals came and went, I did not make the top 5, First time ever. I just know now that I will train and diet and work harder than I ever have before to try to bring in the winning package for the next show.

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?
This new division is something I have my heart set on as I feel that I have one of the top physiques that can be used to represent this new division in the Pro Ranks. This Men’s Physique division can open doors for me that I’ve never seen before. It is a land of opportunity for me. Knowing how hard I bust my ass in the gym everyday and also with the diet and supplementation, I LITERALLY have put my BLOOD SWEAT TEARS & PAYCHECKS (LoL) into this sport and its opportunity that I feel I have earned and I deserve.

This is a great new division for the sport as it will give many men a chance to compete and open doors of opportunity for men who are not “Bodybuilder huge” but still do possess a nice aesthetically pleasing body.

What peaked your interest in training?

*** I come from a broken home, plain and simple, and I'm not afraid to be open about it. My parents abused ALL types of drugs and alcohol. It didn't matter if there was food on the table as long as my mother got herself high that day. My parents could never maintain a place to live so I was always moving, hence why my college is My 17th School.____- As a young baby boy from as long as I can remember I had a brother who "had muscles," Big Muscles! 'Eddie-O' Peaney was my half brother from my father’s first marriage. He was into Everything! Bodybuilding, Fitness Modeling, Powerlifting, the guy did it all! So as a child I of course looked up to my big brother. He was a handsome guy, (a ladies man for sure haha) intelligent, and had an excellent physique and a great job in NYC. Overall He had a Great Positive Life Image. When I was 11 years old, Eddie-O Passed away at the young age of 29. As I grew older into my teens I always kept his memory close with me. I was a very skinny kid who was made fun of for being 'so tall and skinny and poor' because I had lived in a trailer park. I was never the popular cool kid for starters. So one day my sophomore year of High school a distant relative brought me to the gym with him and all I can see when I looked into the mirror at that gym was a Young Eddie. I made the choice to transform my scrawny body and far less than perfect life by continuing to go to that gym with or without that family member or anyone else. Well guess what? I was always working out alone. ME, BY MYSELF, MOTIVATED BY THE THOUGHT OF MY BROTHER AND THE HOPE FOR A BRIGHT FUTURE. So I decided I wanted to push past my brothers Achievements and become even better and more well known then he was for it. So at this young age of 23, I can say that I have achieved that goal.

Bodybuilding and Fitness keep me sane. Growing up in the family I did it was the only way for me to escape. Escape the reality of 'home.' The gym was my stress relief, it was my place to go to think about the future, to think about life and what I wanted out of it. I knew that I had never wanted to be anything like my parents or any of the majority of the rest of the family. So I lifted weights, stay focused on the mental prize and reached for the stars. Now I can say that I am the most determined and motivated person I know. My mind is my strongest and greatest feature of my body. Enough of the sad sob story though right?! LETS GET REAL NOW! Im past my broken childhood... way past it. I understand it as I look back now and accept it for what it was. I’M DOUG!! I’m outgoing, and crazy spontaneous! I’m a 'down for anything anytime' type of guy! I love going to Las Vegas, it’s my favorite place! I love all types of food but my favorite restaurant is Colombian and it’s called City Tavern in Elizabeth, NJ! NYC is super close to me so I go often. I really enjoy comedy, live stand up, tv shows, funny movies and so on. I love to meet new people+travel to new places. In the summer here I’m rockin’ the Jersey Shore! Beaches, Kayaking, Fishing, Atlantic City, Clubs and Lounges! Im a lot of fun and have a Great Personality (so I’ve been told) :)

I am influenced by the bodies of Arnold, Phil Heath, Kai Greene, Jay Cutler, Frank Zane, Lou Ferrigno. As a closer reference with more meaning I’ve been Influenced by my Brother Eddie as I said before.

Sports: In High school I did Wrestling for 3 years (terrible choice, hurt myself every season) football for one season (Wrestling practice was 50 times harder for the record) and Co-Ed Comp cheerleading for one season(I was the guy that held up the girls LoL)

Special interests:
I love social experiments to see how people react when put in awkward situations(I think it’s hilarious), I enjoy fishing, kayaking, the beach, studying the human body, cooking, I used to be an awesome skateboarder(can’t say now), anything funny catches my interest for sure.

I am also extremely motivated at the mental challenge of pushing myself to new levels and taking my body to new limits with each passing day.

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:
I’m cocky on the stage but I’m Humble in real life & I am currently the ONLY men’s physique competitor to have placed over BOTH tall class IFBB Pros in recent past competitions. This lets me know that I am on the right track.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ MY INTERVIEW, I HOPE YOU HAVE LEARNED ABOUT ME AS A PERSON MORE SO THAN JUST A COMPETITOR.
