The 2013 NABBA/WFF Southern Hemisphere Championships promoted by Mark Ryan, have wrapped up for another year, and what a show it was! We have a full Image Gallery with results at the bottom of the page, along with a link to our video wrap-up which contains high quality stage footage.
The story of the night was Steve Orton who took the NABBA Overall, the 23 year old New Zealander overwhelmed the competition with size, but his win wasn't without a challenge from Class 3 winner Jake Nikolopoulos, and also an impressive masters winner in Phil Primmer. What Jake had that was noticeably better than Steve was a thick/full chest and upper body separation. In the end the judges decided to go with the bigger Steve Orton. Both Steve & Jake will be heading to the World's, so stay tuned to Rx Muscle Australia to see how they fair.
In the NABBA Figure we had Vania Primmer the wife of Phil taking the masters class looking at least 10 years under the masters age, her youthful look, and amazing shapes/presentation had her taking the class somewhat easily. In the overall it became apparent that Vania wasn't hard enough for NABBA criteria to take an overall against a razar sharp Lee Anne Temnyk and a very muscular Ildiko Gaspar. Ildiko went on to take the overall which surprised a few, as many thought with her size, that she had made a mistake competing in figure, and perhaps Physique would have been the class for her. The judges thought otherwise and awarded her for bringing condition, size, and a terrific shoulder to waist ratio.
The WFF Men came down to a battle of 2 in the overall with last years winner Jim Vouzas (the favorite going in) and the eventual winner Brent Mottram. Jim was the class 4 winner, he had thick arms and good conditioning, but without it being his last years insane condition. Brent the class 1 winner was very well balanced, with good condition, and enough muscularity to take Jim out in the overall.
Johanna Mountford took out the WFF Figure Overall title coming out of class 2. Johanna combined an excellent balanced physique with no obvious weak body parts, matching that with excellent conditioning, and a level of muscularity that suits the WFF criteria.
