ASM Athlete Countdown: Mike Jenkins and Dimitar Savatinov

Mike Jenkins, Hershey, Pennsylvania. Mike “They Call Me Mr. M” Jenkins has been the countries fastest rising star in pro strongman in the past 20 years. Mike made the leap from winning the 2010 Arnold Amateur Strongman which earned him an invite to the Arnold Strongman Classic where he made a huge name for himself by taking the runner up spot to eventual WSM winner Brian Shaw. He rode that into a top 10 finish at Worlds Strongest Man that year and came back bigger and badder then ever and won the 2012 ASC with room to spare. This year Mike skipped the Arnold in lieu of giving his knee surgery additional time to heal only to come into the 2013 WSM and gt nailed with a nasty Chinese stomach bug. Mike, the grinder he is actually passed out in his attempt to compete in the Squat event during qualifying. Mike came back to qualify for the finals and while still sick and having lost 40lbs in less than 1 week, made the top half of a rather stacked field. Can Mike put that behind him and bring himself home one of a few titles we know he would like to claim as his?

Dimitar Savitinov, . Dimitar is the newest, but not the youngest strongman to earn his pro card in the American Strongman Corporation. Dimitar, though not completely proven, may be the strongest overhead presser in the strongman world right now. He has made claim of more than 500lb standing barbell presses, though in this ASM, it will be an overhead log he will be working with, which is quite a different beast. Dimitar is used to be being “under pressure” as it may be. The vertically challenged Bulgarian is a former Ringling Bros strongman. He has been “driven over” by a Jeep filled with more than a half dozen audience members. If he can muscle that kind of pressure, I think his chances at making a huge impact at this years ASM, will not present much of a challenge.
