hjgfSpotlight On NPC Womens Bodybuilder: JoLynn Shane

Category you compete in: Women’s Bodybuilding

Date of birth: June 5, 1975

How does your family respond to your competing? I have a super supportive family. My children are teens now and my husband is also a heavyweight competitor so life gets very crazy during competition preparation! But after we get past the first few weeks everyone settles into the groove. They do miss my southern cooking during that time.

What kind of goals have you set for yourself, short-term and long-term? My daily goals are to be the best I can be in every area of my life. And continue to inspire others to be their best!! My long term goal definitely involves that illusive card that we all strive for. Hopefully sooner than later!

What's currently on your iPod? My iPod is a mix!! I love all kinds of music. Being from the south I have to love country music! But don’t be surprised if you see me in the gym training to 2 Cphotohainz!!

What are your hobbies and interests outside of the bodybuilding world? Most of my hobbies outside the gym are ironically very girlie. I enjoy cooking, decorating, shopping, self pampering and of course riding my motorcycle.

Do you have a favorite exercise? Shoulder press has always been my favorite movement. There’s just something about pushing that weight up that gets me pumped.

Competition history:2004 KY State, 2007 NC State, 2010 NC State, 2010 North American, 2010 Nationals, 2011 Jr. USA, 2012 NC State, 2012 Nationals

Next competition: North Americans 2013

Favorite Fitness Tip: for my women- never be afraid to push some weight! You won’t bulk unless you try to!

Who would you like to thank? I’d like to thank my mom for my genetics, but I’d also like to thank my husband and children for putting up with all the insanity. I should also go ahead and thank my awesome coach PJ Braun because I’m sure this will be a tough year!! 2013!!!
