Spotlight On NPC Figure Competitor: Megan Rigby

Spotlight On NPC Figure Competitor: Megan Rigby

Category you compete in: Figure
Date of birth: 11/4/19DSC0985785
Hometown: Phoenix, AZ
Career: Registered Nurse and soon-to-be Nurse Practitioner.

What is your favorite contest prep recipe?
During my last contest prep I became a pumpkin fanatic.  I think it had to do with the holiday season and my junk food deprivation. I tried to incorporate it into everything I ate and my favorite meal for this was breakfast.  I would jump out of bed for a morning training session knowing I could eat my “Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal.”  I used pumpkin puree, stevia, cinnamon, almond milk, and steel cut oats.  The best part was mixing in almond butter when it was fresh out of the microwave!  Just a side note, the best way to make oatmeal is to cook it in bulk. I used my crockpot weekly to make my morning oats.  This definitely made contest prep a little more bearable.

What part of your physique are you currently working on?
To be honest, I am still working on everything as of now.  I have not been training that long and would like to gain some overall muscle before stepping on a national stage.  If I had to pick one area/part it would be my back.  I would like it to be a littler bigger and wider.
Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you.
Goal setting. I believe you must always set goals. No matter what it is, keep your eyes on the end result. Whether it is for a competition, weight loss or overall health improvement.  Set a date and a goal. Stick with it until you achieve it!

If you could compete in one other event (FBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini) which would it be and why?
I would compete in fitness if I had to choose another event.  The girls in this class amaze me with the talents they perfect, on top of the incredible physiques they bring to the stage. Aside from training hard, they have to practice a whole other element.

Why NPC:
I chose NPC because of the high quality athletes that represent this organization.  So many of the women I look up to have become Pro Athletes through the NPC (Candice Lewis, Nicole Wilkins, Erin Stern).  I like what the organization represents and who represents it.

What do you like best about DSC09938competing?
The best part was the journey before stepping on stage. I love the drive, determination and perseverance it takes to build a body that is stage ready.  The competing process is a physical and mental adventure.  Also, I found I actually enjoyed the glitz and glam of being on stage. This was a bit unexpected, but the whole experience was rewarding. I was also fortunate enough to have my husband compete as well. This made the process much easier and I loved sharing the adventure with him.

What are your goals for the future?
For the rest of 2012 I am going to train, spend time with family and focus on school.  Come 2013 I plan on pushing my body to the next level and competing in a few national shows. The most important future plan is to graduate from school and begin working as a Nurse Practitioner. My specialty is children and I plan to focus my energy and career on childhood obesity.  I am truly passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and want to teach others how to do the same.  2013 is looking to be an amazing year!

Competition history:
October 2012: Border States California- 2nd place
November 2012: NPC Western Regionals Arizona- 1st in class and Overall Figure winner.

Next competition:
Nationals in Las Vegas, July 2013.

Hobbies:
Lately I have not had much time for hobbies outside of school, work or the gym.  When I do have free time I love being with my hubby, family, friends and our dogs.  I like being active, so any excuse to throw on my sneakers makes me happy. I am also known to be a bit of a “foodie.” My husband and I love trying new restaurants and food!  We are always looking for new “hidden gems” in downtown Phoenix. (Of course we can only do this during off-season training).

What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing?
I have not been competing for very long, but I have learned a lot over the past year.  The biggest lesson would be to keep your eye on the prize.  I have run into a lot of people who have their own thoughts and opinions about training.  However, when all is said and done, the only opinions that matter are yours, your trainer’s and the judges.  Thefitnesssession-8re are a lot of negative individuals who want to bring you down, but you have to stay positive. Contest prep is a difficult time and listening to negative words makes the process worse.  Keep your headphones in and train hard!

What is your favorite contest prep supplement?
MPower Tabs were my favorite supplement during “Peak Week.”  When I was unable to drink a lot of liquids I would eliminate coffee, which would leave me feeling sluggish. Prior to a work out I would take one of these tasty tabs and feel a nice boost of energy. Definitely helped me make it through my final week of contest prep.

Thank:
I would like to thank my family and friends for all their support. My biggest fan was my husband, he stood by my side through all the ups and downs.  Competing together really helped the both of us stay on track.  I would also like to thank my amazing coach Misty Davis and my posing coach Kathy Cole.  Thanks everyone for all your love!
