Date of birth: March 18, 1972
Hometown: Fredericksburg, VA  (Originally from Scranton PA)
Career: Owner of Team V Fitness.  Former 2nd grade teacher with masters in education. Resigned to stay home with my kids and pursued fitness career in 2008.
 
If you could change into a superhero for a day who would you be and why? I would definitely be Wonder Woman. She used a “Lasso of Truth”.  I hate liars or being lied to!
 
What made you begin dedicating your lifestyle to this sport? I began dedicating my lifestyle to this sport in 1995 when I joined Golds Gym in Scranton PA. I took a liking to the weights and the results immediately. Then began idolizing the girls I wanted to look like such as Mia Finnegan, Marla Duncan, Monica Brant, Amy Fadhli, and Sharon Bruneau. I entered my first contest in 1996 and continued to learn year after year, never abandoning the lifestyle.  Well except during my first pregnancy when I gained 55 lbs. :)
 
 
What approach do you take to dieting...carb cycle..keto? My approach to contest dieting is to start 12-14 week prep by keeping it clean with high calories, high protein, moderate carbs and some fat but slowly whittle everything down every couple of weeks. Now that I am in the physique division I do manipulate carbs differently to get a harder look. When I competed in figure I never went very low with carbs.
 
What do you think is the biggest misconimage (2)ception people have about competing? The biggest misconception people have about competing is that we are unhealthy and that we must be using steroids.  People do not realize that diet and hard work are the two components to looking stage ready, nothing else.  Most women are shocked to hear me say that I eat 7 times a day and have fats, carbs and even some fruit.  They also think we are in the gym 6 hours a day. Seriously who has that kind of time?
 
What is your most embarassing childhood memory? My most embarrassing childhood memory was when I was in 3rd grade and selected to dance at a fair on a show mobile. I was supposed to finish my performance with a forward roll into an “Indian Style” sitting position but wound off rolling right off the stage onto the ground. The good part however was that I landed on my feet.
 
What is the biggest lesson you have learned about YOURSELF during your contest prep? The biggest lesson that I learned about myself through my contest preps, is that I have to give it 100% or I will regret the time I wasted. I will not quit! If I say I am going to do something you can bet on me doing it and following through the way I am supposed to.   But more importantly than that, I learned that I need to succeed in something so I am justified in Talking the Talk and Walking the Walk. I feel that I need to share with others how I succeeded, teach them and hopefully inspire.
 
Who do you look up and admireimage and why? As the owner and head coach at Team V Fitness I look up to and admire my clients. I’ve had over 80 competitors in the last 3 years who have all touched my life in a way that I will never forget. They tell me that I motivate and inspire them but they are the ones who have made me a better person and coach each year.  I’ve had clients lose 30, 40, 50 and even over 100 lbs before stepping on stage. I’ve coached single moms working full time jobs who would wake up at 4 or 5 am to do their cardio before going to work and then return to the gym after work to do their lifting. But even more amazing is the support these women give to each other. They help each other through tough times and mentor each other. No jealousy or hate just pure admiration and happiness for each other’s successes.

Who would you like to thank? I’d like to thank my husband Joe for supporting my journey, motivating me to keep going and reminding me every day that I can do whatever it is I set my mind to.  I also have to thank him for folding the laundry on the days I just had no gas left in my tank.
