Spotlight On IFBB Bikini Pro: Jaclyn Wilson

Spotlight On IFBB Bikini Pro: Jaclyn Wilson

Category you compete in: IFBB Bikini ProJaclyn Wilson - Mark Bradfield 2012.1
Date of birth: February 21/1983
Hometown: Fredericton, New Brunswick

Career: Fashion Designer and Entrepreneur. I own Jaclyn Wilson Couture, a fashion business that mostly specializes in custom competition suits, but I can create almost any garment a client requests. Check out my business site: www.jwcouture.ca

How does your family respond to your competing?
My family is very supportive of my competition career. I began competing 7 years ago in figure, later switching to bikini when it was created. My family has attended every local competition I've competed in. Now that I'm competing away from home, my family follows along online and are the first people I call once stepping off stage.

What kind of goals have you set for yourself, short-term and long-term?
The main piece of feedback I received from my pro debut was to put on some size. With that feedback my current goals are to increase muscle mass, but to do that in very strategic places to compliment the bikini physique that is favored by judges. For the short-term my goals are to continue networking with other individuals in the industry, with the long-term goal of eventually being more involved with fitness magazines. I'd love to write pieces for publication, and increase my portfolio of published modeling work. I have an active blog as well (www.jaclynwilson.ca) which I hope to grow over time.

What's currently on your iPod?
My iPod has quite a range of music genres on it, ranging from Pop to Metal to Rap. I like having different types of music to suit whatever my mood is for the day. I've recently been really into Dubstep for resistance training, and often listen to audio books during morning cardio. Only rule is absolutely no country! I'm really not into country music despite being a country gal.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of the bodybuilding world?
I've always had a love for fashion and completed a Fashion Design program after earning my Bachelor of Science Degree. For years I have volunteered to create gowns for the Heart & Stroke Foundation Heart Truth Fashion Gala, an annual awareness event about women's heart health. Recently I became the Vice PresideJaclyn Wilson - Serge Bordage 2011.4nt of the Fredericton Fashion Council, which is just getting its bearings, but has a mission to promote the Fredericton Fashion Industry on a local, national and international level. The Council hopes to eventually offer a network of support and education to all it's members.

Do you have a favorite exercise?
It's a bit of a love/hate relationship, but currently my favorite exercise is the weighted hip thrust. I'm also fond of any variation of the lunge. Being a bikini competitor it's super important to have nicely shaped, round glutes. I find both exercises great for tightening my legs but they are especially useful when trying to firm my glutes.

Competition history:
2012 Toronto Pro Supershow -IFBB Bikini Pro Debut
2011 CBBF Canadian Natural Physique Championships - Bikini Short Class Winner, Bikini Overall Title & IFBB Pro Card Recipient
2010 CBBF Canadian National Championships -1st Place Bikini Short
2009 Atlantic Classic Championships - 1st Place Figure Model Open
2006 New Brunswick Championships -1st Place Figure Short
2006 Atlantic Classic Championships - 3rd Place Figure Short
2005 Saint John Muscle & Fitness Festival - 2nd Place Figure Short

Next competition:
Competition plans are still up in the air. Since making my pro debut this summer at the Toronto Pro Supershow, I have been considering another show before this season finishes. We'll see what happens, hopefully things will come together and I'll be on stage again sooner rather than later.

Favorite Fitness Tip:
Success in fitness is about the journey, finding what approaches work best for you and how to intKJP 3324egrate those approaches into your life. It isn't about being perfect, never cheating or never taking a rest day from training. Rather the journey is all about discovering yourself and being consistent  with your plan, or changing that plan when need be. Be true and honest with yourself and you'll reach any fitness goal.

Who would you like to thank?
Initially I would like to thank RX Girl for this fantastic opportunity. I'd like to thank my main sponsor FUSION Bodybuilding for their great support over the year. I am honored and proud to be part of such a great team who loves the sport of bodybuilding. I'm thankful for my loved ones and friends who have traveled this crazy journey with me. A huge thanks to all the wonderful people who I've never met but continue to encourage and support me. Honestly, the list could be a mile long so I'll just list a few special mentions: Mike Fitz, Garry Bartlett, Angela Carver, Andrew Pierce, Shannon Phillips, Serge Bordage and Miami Tanning.
