Spotlight On: Michelle Hutton & Kristie Winter

Double Trouble!

TwinFitness_0122Category you compete in: Bikini NPC

Date of birth: 1/12/74

Hometown: Chanute, KS but now I live in Overland Park, KS

Career: Co-owner of TwinFitness with my sister since 2001, personal trainer and nutritionist

Competition History:

Michelle: I earned 1st place in 2003 at my very first show fitness and have competed in more than 20 Figure shows since then. I stopped competing briefly when I had my two children in 2008 and 2010 then picked back up with training for the Bikini division shortly after. In 2009, I competed in three Bikini shows and have done five shows so far in 2011! I have placed in the Top 5 at most shows and most recently earned a 2nd place win at Jr. Nationals in Chicago. My goal is to go Pro in the NCP, which has been a dream of mine for 10 years!

Kristie: I first competed in Figure in 2000 and placed in the Top 15 at Nationals. Then I took a break for awhile, got married and had twin daughters in 2010. However, 2011 has proven to be my busiest competition season yet! In March I decided to compete in the Bikini division and did my first show....The Arnold Classic placing 5th in Bikini D class! After that, I competed in the New York Metropolitan, on April 9 and placed 3rd in Open and 1st in Masters. The following weekend, I competed in Iowa and placed 1st in both the Open and Masters Categories and won Overall Masters. In May I went to Pittsburg and placed 2nd in Open and 2nd in Masters.

Next competition:
Team U  Nationals in New Jersey   July 7th-9th

What do you feel the worst part of contest prep is?

Michelle:
For me, it's the last week's prep! I get to the point where I'm like, "Seriously, one more glute exercise, and I might scream!" I get excited if my workout is only five sets of 15 and not 10 sets of 50! LOL!

Kristie: The final week you don't get a cheat meal.  It's hard when you are perfect the entire week you need something to recharge yourself.  I just want a plain potato and a steak.

Would you please tell us a little about your workout schedule:

Michelle: Monday through Saturday I wake up at 4:00 a.m. for an hour of cardio. Mondays and Fridays are glutes and shoulders, Tuesdays and Thursdays are upper body and Wednesday is for plyos.

Kristie: I get up at 3:00 a.m. two times per week to get my cardio workouts done and my weight workouts are scheduled throughout my day.  I do some sort of weights every day and cardio six days per week.

If you had to lose one of your 5 senses, which one would you prefer to lose and why?

Michelle: It would have to be my smell because that way I wouldn't smell everyone elses tan when I get to the show.....WOW it can get pretty bad back stage!  LOL!

Kristie: Taste! I don't eat for pleasure; I eat to fuel my body!

If you could change one thing about this sport what would it be?

Michelle: The fact that some people don't look at us as athletes. They think that we ALL have it easy and don't work hard to achieve our physiques.

Kristie: I would change the misconception that Bikini competitors don't work that hard to look as good as they do. We work just as hard as Figure girls, the only thing that may be different is our training routines because we want to achieve a different look.

TwinFitness_0281If you had a time capsule what would you put inside of it and why?

Michelle: I would put a family picture along with my 2nd place trophy I just received at Jr. Nationals and a note that would say "enjoy life".  Each of these things are VERY important to me and influence me daily.

Kristie: Tennis shoes and my Garmin watch.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

Michelle:
On a beach with a fruity drink in my hand....Jamaica-Mon!

Kristie: Anywhere that has a beach and some sand!

What advice do you have for women who would like to get involved in and compete in the sport of bikini?

Michelle: The best advice I can give is never complain to others around you about what you are doing. This is your thing, and they didn't sign you up for this! Don't make others miserable for something you want to do. You are the only one that has control over your approach to this journey....enjoy it!

Kristie: You have to make this a lifestyle change for yourself and embrace everything that you can do!

What is the day in the life of Michelle like?

My alarm goes off between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. everyday, Monday-Friday, and I hit the ground running. I start off with a workout,  quickly change clothes and start training clients anywhere from 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. until 1:00 in the afternoon. After that, I sneak in a quick 20-30 minute nap so I can recharge for a killer weight workout. Then I check my phone for new contact requests, call potential new clients and send e-mails and new programs to my clients until 5:00 p.m. Next, I'm off to pick up my kids and go home to fix supper for everyone, my hubby included. After dinner, we take the dog on a family walk, give everyone a bath and prepare the girls for school the next day. The kiddos are in bed by 8:00 or 8:30, and then I jump in the shower, do my nightly prep for bed and hit the sack by 9:00 p.m. so I can start it all over again the next day! I am always on the go! When you have your own business, you really never get a break....throw kids and a family on top of that, and you are in for a busy day, everyday!

What is a day-in-the-life of Kristie like?
Very scheduled! My days start anywhere between 3:00-5:00 a.m. I have to get everything done before my girls get out of bed because after they are up, things get too busy to focus on myself! I cook my food one time per week either on a Sunday or a Wednesday depending on what I have going on. I cook for my family about three times per week.

Favorite motivational quote:

Michelle: "You can't out-exercise a bad diet!"

Kristie: "Enjoy the journey!"

In closing, who would like to give a shout out to?
My coach Shannon Dey of Bombshell Fitness, Bobby and Cindy Smith from Total Body Fitness, and Complete Nutrition for amazing supplements, Jan Tana (amazing color) and My TwinFitness Family....couldn't do all this without all of you expecially my sis, my best friend!
