GAIL AUERBACH: The Education of a Bodybuilder

DSC_7202

Okay…I hope you are sitting down to read this because I am about to say something very important and I want you to remember it.  Ready?

“Gail Auerbach will turn pro in 2011.” Got it?

There is my prediction, and having placed 1st in the middleweight plus taken the overall title at last year’s Junior USA, 2nd in the middleweights in this year’s Junior Nationals, and 4th in the 2010 USA’s - who can really doubt that Gail has what it takes to be a pro?

So, given all this I think it is about time we gave Gail our attention on RX and found out a little more about what makes this future pro tick…

So little time and there's so much to say,

There's no explainin' all the things that I've been through...

But I finally found my way to you."  KISS

Don't Stop Believing. . . The Sheila Bleck Story- Part 1

"Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world. She took the midnight train goin' anywhere...."  (Journey)IMG_0106a1

Opening lines from a classic song which could very well describe the early life of one of our favorite bodybuilders, Sheila Bleck. However, despite being a fan favorite and having a very successful career in bodybuilding the fact is that very little is known about the REAL Sheila Bleck. Preferring to stay in the shadows rather than court the spotlight, Sheila has kept herself very private over the years and interviews have been few and far between. In fact her quest for solitude may have led to some people finding her somewhat aloof and unapproachable. As it happens, this is far from the truth. Sheila is just one of those people who prefer to quietly go about their business and keep their private life PRIVATE.

MARINA LOPEZ: ALTERING IMAGES

DSC_4473When Marina Lopez took to the stage at the recent Junior Nationals in Chicago she was a woman on a mission. That mission was to alter the perception some people may have had of female bodybuilding and make a positive contribution to its rebirth.

After winning both the lightweight and overall titles (at a height of 5’ 2” and weighing in at 112lbs) she was well on her way to successfully completing that mission. Currently preparing for the USA’s in Vegas I decided to check up on Marina and find out a little more about her time in the sport, her diet and training strategies and what her future  hopes are for the sport …

The Multifaceted Nicole Ball!

DSC_8805Nicole Ball belongs to a select group of bodybuilders who, in truth, need never set foot on a bodybuilding stage again yet still be universally accepted as a champion within the community.

However, that being said, since turning pro in 2006, her competitive endeavors have been impressive enough for her always to be considered a threat in the pro ranks. As she currently prepares to return to competition at the PBW Tampa Pro, the anticipation is building as to what she will bring to the stage this time around. One thing is for sure, surprises are in store. In fact Nicole is a woman full of little surprises, as I discovered when I spoke to her recently about her life on and off the stage......

Extreme Leg Training with Zoa Linsey!

DSC_9497"Visualize yourself hiking up a mountain...you've hiked for 45 mins and you are almost there. Would you stop 5 steps before the top of the mountain? NO!"

I love that quote from this interview with Ms Olympia contender, Zoa Linsey because it sums up what leg training HAS to be all about. It has to be taken beyond the comfort zone and into the pain zone. It HAS to be extreme and no one can accuse Zoa of cruising through a leg workout with a "let's get this done and get out of here" attitude. The legs you see in these pics are a result of hard work and extreme training....how extreme?

Debbie Bramwell. . . The Power and the Passion!

Deb6With this year's IFBB New York Pro just days away I thought it was time I finally caught up with one of the sports favorite female bodybuilders, Debbie Bramwell. Currently on view In the Iron Asylum , Debbie has made significant improvements to her physique since the last time we saw her on stage and conventional wisdom says she should place very highly come May 8th.  While I will leave the predictions to the more qualified experts, I will dare to say that, in my humble opinion, Debbie will crack the top 5!

Marika Johansson. . . The Viking Queen!

DSC_5067Swedish Siren, Marika Johansson may have been absent from the competition stage for a while but she has been far from absent from the bodybuilding scene. The wife of bodybuilding.com editor Kris Gethin, Marika has been working on projects for the site and attending to her growing list of personal training clients. Currently considering a return to competition I decided it was time to take a closer look at this bodybuilding Amazon and find out what drew her into the sport, how she met Kris, and exactly what her plans for the future are....
