Spotlight on IFBB Womens Physique Pro Jamie Postill (Senuk)

Name: Jamie Postill (Senuk)
Age: 36
HometoArm Cross2wn or current residence: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Q: Tell me about your competitive history.

A: I turned Pro in Figure at the CBBF Nationals in 2006, I then competed in 2 Pro Figure shows in 2007 coming in 12th and 15th. I then suffered some serious health issues and had to step away from the stage, never thinking I would return!

Q: When did you get started on your fitness career/journey? What made you want to become more than just the average person living a healthy and fit lifestyle?

A: My first show was on a whim in 2002 in a Fitness Model category…I knew nothing about competing but I knew I loved training! I then decided to challenge myself a little more and entered a fitness show and was bit by the competitive bug! Once I started to learn more about the sport and the lifestyle, I really embraced it and enjoyed the challenge.

Q: What is some advice that you would offer someone wanting to increase their popularity in the Fitness industry? What tip can you give someone to help them build their following as well?

A: Be yourself, be real. If people don’t like you, so be it. Stick to your values and morals, don’t get swayed by promises and chasing some elusive dream that may never happen….stay grounded. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there a little bit, in a respectful way! Show your personality and be KIND to every person you meet! You never know what you can learn from them and what you may be able to share with the world!

Q: Do you consider this as your part/full time job or a hobby?

A: Oh definitely a tri2hobby, it’s something I enjoy doing and something that is important to me but is not my #1. If I’m not enjoying it, I’m not doing it.

Q: How does it make you feel knowing that there are people who take the time to see what you are doing day to day?

A: It’s a crazy feeling, lol….there’s so many people in this sport that I admire and that have influenced me, so it’s amazing to think that maybe something I’ve said or done has had a similar impact on someone else. It makes me just be myself a lot more to be totally honest…I’m a pretty blunt, open person that not everyone likes. And I’m OK with that because I like who I am…and it took a long time to get to this point! I hope that me being real, I can show others just to do the same….you don’t need to conform to some “standard” out there to achieve your goals.

Q: How does it feel knowing that somewhere, you are actually helping someone by motivating them to achieve their personal goals, just by posting your personal life and achievements on social media?
A: Blows my mind….and is so motivating and really what fuels me to keep bettering myself. I have my struggles…not even 5 years ago I was around 224lbs (I compete just under 150lbs). I have bad days, I have challenges, I don’t win every battle. And that’s OK….it’s how I overcome them all that really makes me who I am. No one is perfect and I definitely don’t pretend to be! I always say “progress, not perfection”.

Q: Is there anyone who has motivated or inspired you to become the person you are today?
A: Wow, sTrophy2o many people to list…..so many great athletes and people in my life that I really admire. I don’t know if there’s really one person….my coach (Helen Bouchard) is the definition of strength in many ways, she’s been a good friend for over 10 years. She inspires me to stay strong, stay focused and overcome whatever I’m given. She inspires me to dream big, reach high and not hold back. And of course, Dana Linn Bailey, lol….after seeing her pop onto the scene I really gave competing a second thought. Besides her amazing physique, I love her attitude, how humble and sweet she is and her work ethic. Her class….you never see questionable pictures of her, I respect that tremendously. Her commitment to her marriage and her business, she’s not just a body, she’s a brain and a hard worker. Very very admirable, I have a lot of respect for both her and Rob and the little empire they’re building.

Q: How does your family feel about your lifestyle? What would you say to someone whose family does not support their lifestyle?

A: Well, some are supportive and some not so much, lol. Some just don’t get it and don’t try to but for the most part, my family is fairly encouraging and supportive of whatever I do. My husband is my rock….he supports me no matter what I’m doing, as long as I’m happy and healthy. To people who don’t have good support networks I always say don’t expect others to understand YOUR decisions….don’t expect people to change their lifestyles to make yours easier. Decide what you’re doing with 100% commitment and get to it, but remember that it’s YOUR goal and YOUR decision…not theirs. It’s hard to “make” other people understand or support the lifestyle when they aren’t in it, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t possible to still do it….just make sure it doesn’t affect their life and that you make time to include them in your busy life.

Q: Of all the social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), what do you think is the most effective to use in order to market yourself in this industry?

A: I would say Instagram or Twitter (although I’m not a Twitter user much, lol)….people like visuals and not a lot of reading I’ve found. My go to is always Instagram. Facebook can get overwhelming with all the long statuses and information, so simple is better.

Q: What is your diet like? Do you eat clean all year round? Well, considering this is my first show back in 7 years, that’s Chest2a tough one! I’ve always eaten healthy or “clean” but am always trying out new things to see what works for my body. I’m a big macro counter, but generally stick to clean food 90% of the time. When I totally deprive myself, that’s all I want….and that leads to disaster. Balance is the name of the game for me! Right now I’m in contest prep, so it’s a pretty boring diet but I like consistency, my body likes it and I find it easiest to eat the same things all the time…boring, lol!
Meal 1: Protein powder or egg whites, oat meal
Meal 2: chicken, rice, greens, squash
Meal 3: rice cakes, cottage cheese, nuts
Meal 4: chicken, rice or sweet potato, vegetables
Meal 5: chicken or fish, rice, vegetables

Q: What isRear your favorite cheat meal? How do you control yourself from going overboard when you decide to treat yourself?

A: I’m not really picky with junk food, lol. My favorite is a burger and fries and either candy or chocolate. I love red meat, I’m the grand daughter of an Alberta farmer (we’re famous for our red meat) so it’s in my genes I think! Nothing like a good steak grilled by my hubby for a treat meal! I hate the work “cheat”….I prefer treat meal, no negative connotations with that. I think about what I really want and if I have it and it isn’t what I’m craving, then I don’t eat it….I’ve learned to choose wisely, lol. I have a meal and a desert and leave it at that, the food hangover isn’t worth it.

Q: Do you take any supplements? What do you think is one of the most important supplements someone should take who is training constantly?

A: I don’t use a lot of supplements….my 2 favorites are a greens supplement (I love Vege Greens by Progressive) and a good BCAA mix. I think greens are crucial to keeping an alkaline, healthy body and BCAA’s just have so many benefits beyond building muscle.

Q: What’s your social media/contact information?
A: My website is www.212fitness.ca, I can be contacted through there or I am on Facebook under “Jamie Postill” or on my business page, 212 Fitness. On Instagram, I’m 212fitness.

Q: Special thanks to:

A: Where to start? My husband, Darryl and my coach, Helen (and Daph). My rocks. Without those people in my corner, this long lost dream of mine would not have become a reality again. So many friends who’ve played a crucial role over the years but mostly, my friend Jacqi Kirk…..for daring me all those years ago to jump up on stage. Thank you for changing my life and being my friend and mentor along the way. Much love to you all.
