Category you compete in:  NPC Masters Bikini

Date of birth: 7/18/57

Hometown: Charlotte, NC

Career: USAirways Flight Attendant

What is your favorite contest prep recipe?

My contest prep diet is pretty basic. I always look forward to lunch though! My ideal mid day meal is free range grilled chicken over mixed greens, kale and spinach. I’ll toss it with fresh green veggies, a little avocado, grape seed oil and fresh lemon juice. It’s filling, flavorful and crunchy. Totally satisfphoto 4ying!

What part of your physique are you currently working on?

Glutes, glutes and then some more glutes!!

Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you.

Nutritionally, what you ingest, eventually shows up somewhere positively or negatively on your body. So make wise choices when you take that next bite! In fitness, I’ve learned that regardless of your goal, it takes time, effort, discipline and perseverance to prevail. Hard work always pays off....just be patient!

If you could compete in one other event (FBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini) which would it be and why?

I would probably compete in figure. A little more defined and muscular. My frame could definitely handle that. Figure girls I see on stage at shows always command such a strong presence! Their hard work definitely is seen and appreciated.

Why NPC:

The NPC is a nationally renowned organization that embodies and empowers athletes, from all walks of life, to showcase their commitment, dedication and perseverance through the sport of bodybuilding. To me, this association exemplifies and enables athletes to show what true dedication is and showcases the rewards from all that hard work and commitment. I have met many amazing people through the NPC. I am honored to be a member and for all that it stands for.

What do you like best about competing?

The camaraderie and fellowship! I have met so many wonderful women at the shows I have competed in. All the insight, tips and suggestions have helped me improve from show to show. I now have great friends all over the country and when I have lay- overs in those cities for work, we actually are able to get together for a work out and a bite to eat. I love it!

What are your goals for the future?

My present goal is to obtain my pro card! At my age, that would be a true accomplishment for me. It would also allow me to show other women that looking good in a bikini is obtainable at any age.

Competition history:

I started competing a little over a year ago in 2013. My first show was the 2013 Charlotte Cup Masters Bikini 35+. 3rd place. 2013 Masters Nationals Bikini 45+ 3rd place. 2013 Mid Atlantic Classic Masters Bikini 35+ 6th place. 2014 Arnold Classic Open Bikini 15th place. 2014 Emerald Cup Masters Bikini 50+ 3rd place.photo 5

Next competition:

I am planning to compete in the Masters Nationals in Pittsburgh this summer

Hobbies:

I am a certified wine specialist and have worked out in a vineyard in Oregon and local wine shops in Charlotte. During contest prep, my wine consumption is sidelined however the night after a show, you’ll definitely see me with a nice glass of Cabernet in hand! I also enjoy traveling around the world, cooking and a playing variety of sports.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing?

I have been only competing for a little over a year now, so I still consider myself a newbie in this sport. The biggest lesson I have learned up to this point, is that patience and perseverance prevail with bodybuilding. If you can stay focused on your goals and are willing to commit the time and effort it takes to achieve them, then success will come!

What is your favorite contest prep supplement?

Peak week is so crucial to contest prep. I have found that Dandelion Root really helps deplete some of that stubborn surface water and gets me stage ready!

Anything else you would like to share?

I went to my doctor for mphoto 1 (2)y annual physical a month ago. I had blood work done. My white cell count

came back high. I went in for more testing. After reviewing the tests, I was diagnosed with CLL last week. Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia. It’s in the early stages so it’s a “wait, see and observe” situation right now. My oncologist said that he has patients who have had this condition for years and it’s never progressed. So I will go back in for periodic blood testing. If it does progress, then the only recourse is undergoing chemotherapy. At this point, I feel great and plan to continue to live my life as normally as possible, work and train for my next show in July. Sometimes obstacles and detours crop up unexpectedly, forcing us to veer off course and take a different path in life. That’s ok. My motto is, it’s not what you do when you get knocked down...it’s what you do when you get back up! I’m a fighter and I will prevail. :)
