Meet MP Competitor Victor LeClair

With vicus today is MP Competitor Victor LeClair.  Congrats on hitting that National Stage!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?
Well for the past few Januarys I’ve always told myself: “I got 4 months to get cut and in great shape for the summer.” My lifting friends and I would say this every year and we never did achieve that perfect beach body we were after. We lacked the dedication and commitment I’ve learned in these past 9 months. So deciding to compete helped me reach this goal. After years of saying it, I finally had a killer body come summer time.

Can you tell us a little about the show in which you last competed?
The last competition I competed in was the NPC Team Universe in Teaneck, NJ. It was just my second competition after competing in the Jay Cutler Classic two months earlier. Team Universe had so many great physiques that blew my own out of the water. It was then I realized I was just a “small fish in a sea of sharks.” I need to bulk up for next year for sure!

How did you feel after pre-judging?
I felt pretty excited and happy just to be there, at that point I knew I wasn’t going to place and was really just there for the experience.

How did you feel about the final results of the show?
The judges had their hands full for sure. Personally I thought there were so many flawless physiques. Like I said before I was mainly just happy to be there and to experience the Men’s Physique Competition at a National level.

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?
Personally I love preparing myself and anticipating the competitions. It’s a constant motivation every day to stay active and eat clean. It has opened a new door in my life with different opportunities within the fitness industry. I’m hoping to get my pro card one day and hopefully get sponsored.

Age: After Show 3 23

Hometown:  Bellflower, CA

Current city:  Keene, NH

Years training:  4 years training like the average joe but 9 months following a strict meal plan and training more seriously than ever.

Education:  Keene State College – Bachelors of Exercise Science

Occupation: Recently completed my internship at the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital working as their assistant in their Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab Program.

Favorite type of training:
I love to super set my exercises. It definitely kicks up the intensity and decreases the rest time between exercises. Also, I normally get a great pump when super setting. I’m also a big believer in controlling the weight while lifting and really focusing on the contraction of the muscle your targeting.

Favorite body part to train: Triceps

Favorite exercise: I love doing skull crushers. I’ve always had strong triceps and love to skull crush.

Rep range:photo2 8-10

Number of sets: 3-4

Typical workout duration:
15 minute warm up
60 min lift
30 min cardio (during contest prep)

Training split:
I normally change my routine up every 3-4 weeks to keep my muscles guessing. Right now I’m 9 days out from competing at the Eastern USA’s and I’m following a 4 day split.

Typical daily eating plan:
I try to eat all 7 of my meals within a 12 hour window to keep my metabolism constantly burning. I also try to space my meals out to every 2 hours. I love making stir frys, I’ve become quite the cook.

Favorite supplement:
I’m a big fan of any pre-workout supplements. I like them all. I like to try all different ones and switch it up. They give me great mental focus and drive to get the job done.

What peaked your interest in training?
I first started working out when my Dad was deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004. It was a hard time for me being only 15 years old and basically having my Dad taken from me. So when he left we created a fitness competition to see who was in the best shape when he returned. This is what first motivated me to work out and get strong. In my Dad’s absence I found a passion for weight lifting and getting fit.

Sports: I’ve played ice hockey ever since I was 5 years old. Absolutely Love it.

Physique, fitness, bodybuilding competition history:
NPC Jay Cutler Classic - May 6th 2012 – 1st Place in Class A
NPC Nationals Team Universe – July 6th 2012 – 16th Place in Class B

Next planned competition:
NPC Eastern USA’s – November 3rd, 2012

What keeps you on track towards reaching your goals?
Besides my family and friends support, I recently got the Nike Fuelband and that thing really has motivated me to stay more active. It’s just the coolest fitness gadget I’ve seen. You can track so much info on your iPhone or computer. I definitely recommend getting one to you guys out there.

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:
I plan on going to Graduate School next year to get my Masters in Exercise Physiology and eventually get work in a Cardiac Rehab Program.
