New Competitor on the Block: John Franco 75 Pounds Later

While walking around backstage at the Orange County I ran into a number of Men's Physique competitors.fat John Franco for example is a guy in great shape.  You would never guess he was overweight just a year ago.  Here is a man that has lost 75 pounds and steped on stage in the best shape of his life...all while approaching 40 years of age when most people make excuses.  John is making changes not excuses! You can see John's before shot here to the right.  Want to see the new John?  Read on!

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division?

I think it's a great move on behalf of the NPC, not only because of the business side but because it will engage more people into the sport. My take is that more so now than ever people are wanting to make physical changes and need someone they can see is doing it. The masses don't want to look like bodybuilders but want a nice beach body they can feel happy and comfortable with, something that is realistic and attainable. My sole purpose of competing is because I want to be that role model to help inspire and motivate others to make that change. My change came at 38 when I was overweight at 265lbs. I took a year and completely transformed and found myself on stage at 190lbs. I created a video that can be seen on my site www.iamcombat.com. So far with my twitter and facebook following I find many folks in the 40's and 50's competing and doing things they normally wouldn't even have thought of doing before. It took me over nine months of consistent posting about my struggles and accomplishments to create the following. I get numerous emails and posts of how my own transformation has helped them. I consider myself a fitness evangelist.
