Meet Aaron Reed: Winner of the NPC Orlando Metropolitan Men's Physique Division

Aaron Reed crouched under the doorway as he left the auditorium after winning 1st Place in theRC Shoot Aaron Read After Winning 2011 NPC Orlando Metropolitan Mens Physique. Why crouch you ask? At 6’7” tall, most doorways are a bit of a tight squeeze. Aaron is officially the Tallest to win to date in the Men’s Physique Division. You may have seen his video interview here on MensPhysique.com already…if you haven’t check it out. In the meantime, would you like to see some shots of this amazing physique and get to know Aaron? Read on.

How was your overall experience at the Orlando Metropolitan show?

I had a great time at the Orlando Metropolitan. It was a great opportunity for me to get my feet wet with the class. I want to come from the ground up in the division. By doing more than one show before I head to USA's I feel I am  better representation for the class. Many people tried to say they thought I would be too big for the class. This was proof I am not too big but rather and intimidating force for the new Men's Physique Class.

How does Men’s Physique compare to your time bodybuilding?

You have to remember I was 5 Time NPC Bodybuilding champion. As a super heavy wt I was always considered to lack mass to win at nationals. This is great because now that I am in a new division that is not the case. My symmetry is what is going to bring me the win here just like it did in bodybuilding accept in this class symmetry and aesthetics will always over shadow size and bulk.

What drew you to the Men’s Physique Competition?

I love to compete, whether it’s for a small show or a big one I approach each one with the same focus. Wining this competition on Saturday tells me I am on the right track. So I guess you could say, I couldn’t be happier.

What are your thoughts on the direction of the Men's Physique Division?
I envision the return of the “Classic Look.” Physiques that I grew up idolizing have lost their appeal over the years due to the massive Dinosaurs we see today. Aesthetics have somehow gone out the window in exchange for size. There have been hundreds of bodybuilders to come and go since Arnold Schwarzenegger yet we still see his masterpiece plastered on a different magazine just about every month. That’s because bodybuilding use to be and art, now it’s anything but. Health use to be in total consideration, now it’s just size. I want to see the male body displayed in the greatest light possible. Bigger is not always better.

It’s time to bring back small waistlines and dramatic V tapers while still being very muscular and fit. Let us remind the world how amazing a Well Developed Natural Physique can look and the New Men’s Physique Class is going to do just that….. with my help of course.

Age: 29

Hometown: The Small Town of Minco Oklahoma

Current city: Tampa Florida

Years training: I started working out at age 12 and started competing in body building at age 19. I have been training for about 17 yrs.

Education:

I graduated from Minco High in Minco Oklahoma later I went on to study business at Mesa State College in Grand Junction CO. After 2 yrs of school I decided to make my own way.

Since then I have studied Exercise and Nutrition for years.April 16, 2011 (3)good

Occupation:
I am currently a Sales Rep for a Toxicology Lab (American Clinical Solutions), I am also a Health and Nutrition Specialist and Personal trainer out of PowerHouse Gym Downtown Tampa.

Favorite type of training:
I love Pounding Nails in the gym. I trained to get pumped. It gets my high….every time. I live for it every minute. I also enjoy doing explosive conditioning such as sprints, truck pushes, Sleds and Stairs. This makes me feel like and athlete and is the only type of conditioning I do. Running for long periods of time on a tread mill is not only boring but a waste of time.

Favorite body part to train:
Shoulders, but I enjoy all body parts and I am not just saying that. I have a vision of what I want my Physique to look like so every day is exciting because I watch it change before my eyes.

Favorite exercise:
It’s a cross between “Hand Cleans” which I just reached my personal best of 300lbs last month and Rear Delt Machine Fly. It makes my shoulders look superhuman.

Rep range:

It depends on lots of things but 8-12 for the bulk of my workouts

Number of sets:
at least 20 sets a workout sometimes up to 30

Typical workout duration:
1 ½ hours I work hard and fast, not longer and weaker.

Training split:
Right now I am doing this but it always changes.

Monday Back with emphasis on density and width, calves, obliques and Serratus,

Tuesday Morning is Explosive Conditioning – Evening is Arms, calves, upper and lower abs, and Neck

Wednesday- Quads, calves,

Thursday Morning is Explosive Conditioning – Evening is Shoulders and Upper Back, Calves, Obliques,

Friday- Chest, Calves, Serratus,

April 10, 2011 (22)Best
Typical daily eating plan:
I stick to the principles of “A SuperNatural Lifestyle.” This is the book I wrote on nutrition that has made all of my achievements possible. Not to mention many professional athletes from the WWE, NFL and Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure competitors. I am 100% Natural and I love it. You can find my book available at www.supernaturalphysiques.com and I absolutely love the way I eat.

I will say this I eat SUGAR, FAT and PROTIEN daily.

Favorite supplement:
an Apple

What peaked your interest in training?
Initially it was watching Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Barbarian. That is still my favorite movie.

Training with weights was the first physical thing I was better than my older brother at. He was the athlete in the family and I was the smart one. This changed everything.

Who influences/influenced your training?
A child hood mentor, Gus Handke a power lifter and home town hero introduced me to the gym at age 12 and a bodybuilding show where I seen Flex Wheeler as a guest poser.

Today I try to build my physique to look like a cross between Arnold and Frank Zane. I study both of their posing and aesthetics constantly.

Sports:
Football and basket ball in high school

Boxing for a short time in LA at age 26

Professional Wrestling for the WWE at age 28

I have been Competing in Bodybuilding since 2001 but now I am only competing in Men’s Physique.

Special interests:
Nutritional Science as it applies to greater health. I am always learning and trying new things with foods, herbs and spices. I am fascinated by the human body.

April 16, 2011 (74)best
Next planned competition:
April 30, the Orlando Europa, Then USA’s July 29-30th I may sneak into another comp in between the two. You’ll just have to wait and see.

What keeps you on track towards reaching your goals?
I made a promise to god when I was a kid and the fact that I think about my health daily.

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:
I am a 100% Natural Athlete. I stay in contest shape year round because of my eating principles. I haven’t had a cheat meal in over a year. “A SuperNatural Lifestyle” makes this possible.

Also a friend of mine Named His Child Aaron Reed Rager after me and my childhood mentor Gus Handke named his second child Gunner Aaron Handke after me as well. So, I have to do my best to make sure it’s a name to be proud of.
