Orange County Muscle Classic XXXV "A SUCCESS!"

This past Saturday was the Orange County Muscle Classic Show and another day for the new Men's samsacketPhysique Division to shine.  Jon Lindsay put on another great show with top notch competitors.  There was yet another strong turnout for this exciting new division.  I can't tell you how many men AND women said to me "finally" when I ask them their thoughts on this division.

The interest is obvious when you see the sheer number of competitors and spectators for the event.  At the OC Muscle Classic there were 8 in the Masters Division, 4 in Class A, 7 in Class B and 12 in the C Class (5'10" and above.)  This breakdown in numbers shows that consideration should be made for increased number of height classes.  The 5'10" and above is huge because the average male  height in America is nearly 5'10"; therefore, it stands to reason that roughly half of male competitors would be in the C class whereas the remaining "half" is split in the A and B class according to current guidelines.

That being said, the quality of the physiques in each Class was spectacular at this show.  The most interesting difference between this show and the Culver City show just a few short weeks back was the improved placment of the more muscular physiques.  Being a new division means that only time will tell what the "desired" physique is in the eyes of the NPC.  As for the OC Muscle Classic, it was a more muscular physique than that of the Muscle Contest in Culver City.  The judges and the competitors that show up at any particular show will determine which physique is most likely to obtain the awards.  I still say that now is the time to bring to the table the physique you want to be representative of Men's Physique.

The Overall Men's Physique Winner at this contest was Arizona native Bobby Ashhurst.  He is a Nutrition Store Owner, Fitness Expert and FMI Alum.  He took what he learned at the Culver City show and came in to Aneheim a bit leaner, a bit darker, and took home the Overall Prize.  Congrats Bobby!

Check back in soon for our video AND written interviews with Bobby Ashhurst (Overall Winner), Danny Kovarkizi (Winner Tall Class), and the Head Judge for this show, Tamer El Guindy,  sharing their thoughts!
