It's Christmas time, which in this country means overindulgence more so than usual and as a strength athlete, I'm ok with that. What really matters is ensuring that that caloric intake increases during the cold off season months. Building quality strength, size and fortitude begins with calories. Granted, a balance of appropriate calories is important, but for those times when you want to splurge, there are lots of places to turn to, but this is one of my favorites.
VooDoo Donuts on the Eastside of Downtown Portland, Oregon is the only place to stop for the original strength athlete staple: BACON!!! VooDoo makes some of the craziest donuts around, but it's their Bacon Maple Bars that really get me. These delectable, soft, sweet and savory bites of awesomeness have been expanding the waistlines of Oregonians for several years now. If youa are in the Portland area or are even remotely close to the Pacific Northwest, you owe it to yourself and bacon lovers the world 'round to try these incredible donuts.
VooDoo does more than maple bars. With donuts like Triple Chocolate Penetration (chocolate donut, chocolate frosting and Cocoa Puffs) The Loop (yeast donut, vanilla frosting and Fruit Loops) and Ol' Dirty Batard (yeast donut, vanilla frosting, peanut butter and Oreo's) there is something for everyone. Sally and I will be visiting VooDoo this spring and will be reporting on all of the deliciousness they have to offer.
