Breaking News: Dave Palumbo is reporting from Los Angeles that Michael Burke of Aurora, Colorado, the 2011 Olympia Strongman Champion has just won the L.A. Fit, Met-Rx All American Strongman Challenge. Mike went into the final event, the Atlas Stones with a 1/2 point lead over Icelands Stefan Solve Petersen and emerged victorious. Michael was one of only two athletes to finish all 5 stones.
The rest of the field saw Petersen, who held onto the lead for most of the day, take 2nd followed by three more Americans, Nick Best, Josh Thigpen and Vincent "Machine Gun" Urbank. Mark Felix from the U.K. was a heavy favorite going into today, but struggled throughout.
With todays win, Michael earns himself his first invitation to the prestigous Arnold Strongman Classic on March 2nd and 3rd in Columbus, Ohio. He joins fellow American's Brian Shaw, the 2011 ASC and WSM champion, the 2009 and 2010 ASC champion Derek Poundstone, and 2011 ASC Runner-up Mike JenkinsLook for upcoming video and an interview with Dave Palumbo shortly.
