Guy Mason: Australia's best triceps? How he built them!

Guy Mason Triceps trisMany of us see the current crop of top tier pro bodybuilders like Roelly Winklaar, Eduardo Correa or Paul Demayo through the 90’s support horseshoe shaped thick/striated triceps many of us would only dream of. Rarely do we see this on an amateur level, and even more rarely on a natural amateur bodybuilder! Well, we contacted a man who we believe has one of the best sets of triceps in Australia in Guy Mason who competed this year for the first time. Below Guy gives us a little history about himself along with a typical tricep routine letting us know how he built his crazy triceps!

guy mason roelly winklaar tricep“I train at home in my garage with my wife Lavinia, and prepare for contest myself. I’ve had 2 bad motorcycle accidents which shattered both my legs, 1 arm, my jaw, ribs & tailbone. I now have 12 plates/screws in the left leg, & the right is 3cm shorter, hence me being off & on with training.

I train triceps once a week with back as I favour a push/pull routine i.e. Chest & biceps, back & triceps. I have been training arms off & on since the age of 20.

I only started eating every 3 hours when I started dieting for my May 2012 comps, which diet went for 6 months. Before this I would only eat lunch and dinner.”

Tricep Pushdowns (warm up) 10-15 2
Skull Crushers (strict form) 12 2-3
Avanti seated bicep/tricep machine 6-10 2
Avanti seated bicep/tricep machine (single arm) failure 1

Exercise notes:

12Skull Crushers- Performed in a strict fashion. Guy typically works up to 50-60kg. In his younger years Guy went as heavy as 75kg.

Avanti seated bicep/tricep machine- Cheating, swinging to get the weight up to total failure. This exercise gives Guy a pump & burn like no other.

Avanti seated bicep/tricep machine (single arm) - Spot myself with the free arm on this exercise.

 

Note: I don’t believe in exercises such as tricep kickbacks, and focus my routine around compound exercises.
