Luke Timms Responds to our Gossip Column

IFBB Pro Luke Timms Responds to rumorsAfter I posted an article about how the two Australian Pro's performed in Europe I received an email from IFBB Pro Bodybuilder after I took screen shots from his facebook page of a couple of posts he put up after the show in Europe.

Like many guys would do they'd send an email to me abussing me but I was plesently surprised when Luke was polite and simply explain to me it wasn't what he mean't and what he wrote came out the wrong way and said after he read both posts he was surprised how it sounded and he far from wanted to sound like a bad sport which if I know Luke was genuinly sincere in my breif experience with Luke as he's always been a stand up guy.

Read on to hear Luke's response to what we wrote on Luke...

I competed in march in Melbourne and stepped on stage at about 85%,not my best condition, I was a little watery but went with it. I competed at 111kgs on that day I was very lucky the lights were really good and I was able to get away with coming in a bit off, that was a good day. Anyway a few days later I decided I wasn’t happy and this is why I followed up with the Spain show. Not to compete against anyone but just myself as I knew that I wasn’t 100% and I knew I could’ve looked better in Australia, so then came the Spain show in Madrid. In the end I dropped from 122kg - 14 day out to the exact same stage weight as I was in melb 111kgs, I was 100% this time I nailed it in Spain. But the lights were terrible so all the photos taken disappointed me but I knew I was 100% at that start of prejudging. I kind of got a bit dishearten as I didn’t get called out as much as I liked as the show went on and did start to smooth out a bit. Looking at how I faired at in the end at my 100% condition I would’ve only moved up 2 or 3 places to 10th or 11th. So I know I need more size.

When I next step back on stage next time I need at least 8kgs more muscle if I want a chance, so back to the drawing board as this is where it becomes almost impossible to add anymore size. I know it’ll take me at least 2 years so competing before that will be just for fun. Anyway now I know what to expect for my future international completions. Its just the travelling distance that was way too far and I said to myself I would never travel to a non English speaking country to compete again as Spain made me feel somewhat unwanted.

Luke Timms Europe Pro2I decided to heads to Spain 10 days out, I was 100% focused at the task at hand, hoped on the flight drank my 1 litre of water every hour and did 20minute stretching every hour for 30hours- yes I said 30hours that’s how long the flight was, everything was perfect. Got to Spain, wasn’t holding much fluid n still focused, it was freezing! Got to the hotel that the IFBB pro league said for us to stay at, we checked in and it was very posh. I got to my room and was like "wtf" bed, TV... That’s it, not even a microwave or basin just a little bar fridge that fit 3litres of water in it. Luckily I said okay calm down to myself, I brought my own rice cooker n georgeforeman grill. So did my thing, found a gym and had 7 days exact to dial it in.

Luke and BenThe TV had no English just Spanish not even subtitles all I could do is train and talk to my girlfriend, everyone else spoke Spanish. Well first day down got food and cooked a bit and trained. I was going well, got home from gym to the hotel to find a letter under my door saying I wasn’t allowed to cook in my room if I did again I would be kicked out this made me very distraught and disappointed. Went downstairs and complained finally got them to set up a microwave in the buffet room open till 9pm. So I went down had to cook everything in the microwave prepare it for the day and eat it cold in my room which I had to make suffice. I still used my rice cooker for rice though secretly. So everything was back on track, all the pro's arrived late, about 3 days out and all stayed kind of hidden. Well luckily I found out there was a pro meeting the day before the show which I was unaware of as I didn’t get a letter regarding this to my room like the other pros did. So preceded to the meeting had everything explained to me how the show would be run, prejudging, single compulsories followed by comparisons, a 20 minute break and then finals were individual routines and comparisons again. All our numbers were randomly picked out 17 of us, okay so Jonnie Jackson went first and got #1 then Mike Kefalianos went and got his and by surprise got number 2, by my time I got unlucky 17 (think what you will), I just didn’t want to be the last number as I didn’t get a rest after my routine and I must go straight back on for comparisons.

Luke and JohnieSo show day came was rushed very quick it was very clear no one spoke English. So we all line up backstage the only name the backstage Spanish crew knew was Johnnie Jackson, so it went like this Johnnie Jackson stand here then 2,3,4 "and you number 17 last, stand here" over and over again very disappointing. So I had no idea when I would be on stage as it was 3 sets of stairs to get to the stage and only a few allowed up at a time and we weren’t allowed to go see who was on and had no way of finding out. Well I did my single comparisons I was last and was breathless, I went behind curtain grabbed water bottle about to take sip and a judge ripped it out of my hand and said no and pushed me back out on stage, I wasn’t happy, didn’t even get a sip of water. Did comparisons didn’t want be in first call out because I was puffted so my turn came and I did my thing. I was over looked which is fine I know I have to pay my dues first. Finished comparisons and bam they changed they're mind, no rest between prejudging and finals, we went straight into individual routines. No one was happy about this as we were all on stage for an hour and flattened out. So I did my routine I was so out of it and fucked it up like I usually do lol. I was knackered and they did comparisons again, no rest for me straight back onstage I was over looked again which was disappointing as I knew they were staring at me for a good 5 seconds and stood out like a sore thumb n the judge decides to look down at the paper instead and call out another number. Well all done and dusted I knew I would never make top 6 even before I left Australia so went and got dressed and Helen (Mike Kefalianos' wife) comes up to me and says "Mike's won 1st place", my reaction was in shock and responded instantly very loud across the room "FUCK YEAH". Well they at least got one thing right. Mike was very humble and grateful about his win and I congratulated him and was extremely happy for him, he really deserved it, myself after experiencing what he went through in his previous comps of being overlooked felt like this made me appreciate his win even more. Well that was it and I went off to burger king and was happy to be done and to come home to Australia to see my son cooper.
