Interview with Australian IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Luke Schembri!

IFBB Pro Luke Schembri Holly Heard PhotographyLuke Schembri became the 3rd male bodybuilder to win their pro card at the ever-growing FitX Pro Qualifier competition. In what was the toughest lineup so far, and possibly one of the best amateur lineups in Australia ever Luke took out an impressive David Cutler and Aussie Muscle Radio co-host Scott Goble. Luke balances running two succesful business' in Muscle Meals & Mass Nutrition Brookvale, and having a Pro career.

Rx: Luke thanks for talking to Rx Muscle Australia once again, first question, and something I think a lot of people would wonder is after turning pro in March at FitX how has your life changed?

Luke: Life has become crazy, I never real understood what it meant to become a Pro Bodybuilder and the amount of support and attention that came with it. To say I have been overwhelmed with the amount of support I have received would be an understatement.
I am also concentrating on improving my physique as my ultimate goal is to become the best Aussie Pro currently competing on the Pro circuit however I am still a long way away from that.

Luke Schembri LegsRx: You can certainly see that you're working towards that with the picture that went up today of yourself and Scott Goble after a leg session. Is it just me or have your physique and especially your legs grown and gone to another level?

Luke: To be 100% honest I have been working so hard that I have been feeling like I haven't put in enough effort in my training and I was unhappy with the way things have been going so to hear that is a big complement, thank you. Hopefully in the next 3-4 weeks I will have balance back in my life and I will be able to stop working so hard and start training more. My wife has been telling me that I have been growing but I never listen to her lol.

Rx: I've seen online that you incorporate only 2 carb meals into your offseason meal plan which goes against many "old school" ways of thinking to add size, is this in effort to stay leaner in the offseason, or do you believe in the high fat/moderate carb approach to gaining muscle?

Luke: I have added extra fats from nuts, whole eggs and EFA's into my diet now and reduced my overall carb intake, I am also trying to be gluten and dairy free for most of the time and I am enjoying the results, in saying that if I feel like a cheat meal on this lower carb plan then I will eat whatever I like for that one meal rather than for the whole offseason as I used too. In saying that owning Muscle Meals Direct means I am never out of high protein meals so my diet is very good at the moment.

Luke Schembri IFBB Pro Holly Heard Photography 2Rx: What are your plans from here in terms of competing as an IFBB Pro?

Luke: I am very busy with work but I hope things can settle down very soon and I can string a good 9 months together and come back to the Aussie Pro show with an extra 2-3 kgs of muscle and hopefully head to the US and do a couple of shows back to back.

Rx: What's your goal for next year’s pro show? Also with competing internationally are you thinking at all about trying to accumulate enough points to qualify for the 2014 Mr Olympia?

Luke: As much as I would love that realistically I need another 6-7kgs of muscle before I think I can stand next to some of the best pros out there so this would be a goal over the next 2-3 years.

Rx: Luke I want to thank you talking to Rx Muscle Australia, we look forward to seeing you back on the pro stage and we'll be sure to follow your progress as you prepare for next March.

Luke: Thanks Xavier and thank you for all the support RX Muscle has given to me.
