IMG 2661Spotlight On NPC Figure Competitor: Edilene Cuevas

Date of birth: January 26, 1991

What is your favorite contest prep recipe?
I grew up on Filipino food.  Tilapia was the first food I was able to relate from my childhood with contest prep food.  I grew up on fried tilapia and have been accustomed with eating the whole fish.  During my first contest prep, I would buy the whole fish of tilapia instead of tilapia filets. I have learned to make the crunchiness of tilapia without having the tilapia be fried.

Tilapia Oven Baked
1.  Pre-heat the oven to 350º F.
2.  Season the tilapia with sliced garlic, onions, tomatoes, and lemons
3. Place tilapia in the oven, have foil on top of tilapia
4.  Cook for 30 minutes
5.  Take off the top foil and broil for 15 minutes to have the “crunchy” texture.

What part of your physique are you currently working on?
I love lifting heavy and building muscle mass. Overall
I am trying to build muscle mass, specifically in my shoulders.

Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you.
Compete with only yourself.

A fellow bodybuilder told me to imagine every contest as a graduation.  You’re learning during your prep and on the day of the contest you graduate. The only thing that matters is that you have learned about preparing for a contest.

If you could compete in one other event (FBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini) which would it be and why?
I would love to compete in the physique division because of the posing routine.  Since the physique division first came out, I became in “awe” of the women’s feminine posing routines and would love to one day become a physique competitor.

Why NPC:
Before IMG 2617I started competing, the fitness women inspired me.  Once I became more knowledgeable about the bodybuilding world, I found out most of my inspirations competed in the NPC.

What do you like best about competing?
Competing gives me a goal every time I take a step inside a gym.  Each time I walk in, I have a game plan. I try to see how fast and how hard I need to push it for that day, to make myself better for the next workout.

What are your goals for the future?
I would love to inspire the general public on health and wellness by promoting through example.  I plan on competing in the Nationals and eventually turn IFBB Pro.

Competition history:
NPC Washington Ironman 2011 Figure A Division -1st, 2nd in overall
NPC Nationals 2011 Figure A Division- 9th
NPC USA 2012- NP

Next competition:
My next competition will be early in 2013 to help me re-qualify for Nationals.

Hobbies:
I love being active with my puppy, we go on walks every night and I try to run, hike or bike with her once a week.  I also love relaxing with my family watching the Walking Dead TV series.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing?
I have only competed for one year; the biggest lesson I learned over this year is that no one is forcing me to compete. I compete because I enjoy competing, I eat my meal plan by choice, and I go to the gym because it makes me happy.

What is your favorite contest prep supplement?
My favorite contest prep supplement is my protein shake MRM Natural Whey – Chocolate.
