Spotlight On NPC Figure Competitor: Blanca Barcelò

blanca5Spotlight On NPC Figure Competitor: Blanca Barcelò

Category you compete in: Figure
Date of birth: 09/09/1977
Hometown: Tucson, AZ
 Career: Consumer Loan Underwriter

What is your favorite childhood memory?
I am originally from Nogales, Sonora Mexico, growing up in Mexico was fun but my parents did not have a lot of money and we did not get a lot of toys so we played sports out in the streets with friends and family. I would always try to outrun the boys and was one of the fastest runners in the group. This is where my love for sports began and my competitive nature developed.

Name a song that motivates you.
There are many but recently, while training for the North American Championships, I would listen to a “Moment for Life” by Nicki Minaj. Whenever this song would come on when I was working out, I would picture myself on stage winning and this thought would push me to train harder.

What is your biggest gym pet peeve?
People who take long resting breaks in between sets while I am waiting to use a machine or are talking to friends wasting valuable gym time.

How do you like to reward yourself?
I like to enjoy a nice cheat meal with friends and family, but I am also a little bit of a shopaholic who ends up buying workout clothes while shopping for a nice evening dress. :)

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
I would love to instill the passion I have for health and fitness in every single person in the world so that they can take better care of themselves and live a much healthier lifestyle.

What do you do right before you step onstage?
I take a deep breath, get a big smile, and walk very confident knowing that I did everything I could up until that moment and I am there to have fun and showcase all the hard work I put in.

Nook, Book or Kindle?
Book, I love to read and there’s nothing like holding a good book in your hands and touching the pages while turning them versus looking at a computer screen.

Competition history:
2010 INBA Arizona Copper Classic Ms. Figure 5th place, Ms. Physique 3rd place.
2011 NPC Terminator Bikini Class B 3rd place
2011 NPC Arizona Open Bikini Class D 5th place
2011 NPC Western Regional Figure Class C 1st place
2012 IFBB North American Championships Figure Class D 3rd place

Next competition:
My coach and I are planning another national show sometime in 2013, but we haven’t decided on one yet.

If someone followed you for the day what would they be most surprised about?
They would be surprised as to how much I love this sport. I live it, breathe it and sleep it. It has been almost three months since my last competition and somebody at the gym recently asked me if I was competing soon because I look competition ready. For me, it is no longer a 12 week program and then I go back to a “normal” routine. It has become my way of life and I am truly happy because I found my passion in life.

What is your preferred tanning product and why?
Jan Tana, I tried it for the first time at Nationals and had a great experience with the staff and the product.

Favorite Quote:
“The happiest people don’t have the best of everything, but they make the best out of everything they have”

Who would you like to thank?
I would love to thank my dad for genetically providing me with a wide back and big shoulders that I used to hate growing up since I wanted more “feminine” features, but now I feel blessed because they are perfect for this sport.
