What do you feel is the WORST part of contest prep?
Dieting =) LOL!  Not the being hungry or anything else. But revolving your life and everyone else’s around your diet gets old. Getting weak in the gym is hard mentally, not having energy to do the little things in life that can bring so much joy.

Would you please tell us a little about your workout schedule?

I lift 5-6 days a week. A body part a day, this is my favorite thing about bodybuilding! I love being in the gym. I love feeling strong. I am in my element in the gym and under some iron! Legs are my favorite! I think that shows!  My split usually runs:

Legs
Shoulders
Back
Arms
Chest

If you had to lose one of your 5 senses, which one would you prefer to lose and why?
That’s a tough question, but I would have to go with hearing. Sad right. I have no musical talent or ability to dance… I can’t clap on beat at church, people ask me to stop =( LOL.  Sight is important to see my daughter grow, to see beautiful colors and paTarna-Alderman-0009tterns.  Smell is important not only for the taste buds, but for memories. Taste and touch I would like to keep for obvious reasons. Food and movement! =)

If you could change one thing about this sport what would it be?
It would be more popular. More people would be into it and following it. I think as far as female bodybuilding is concerned this could be changed as the women bring back the more femme side of it. Lets face it, it has gone to far when a woman no longer looks like a woman in the structure or stature.  Physique looks hopeful, I am excited to keep an eye on that, but hope to see more muscle in it. Muscle is the point of the sport.

If you had a time capsule what would you put inside it and why?
Depends on who its for. If it is for future me…pictures of my daughter, Lana growing up. I love looking back on the stages of her life.
If its for future people of earth…. My contribution would be the smell of coconut.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
HAWAII! Ive only been once, but a piece of my heart was left there!

What advice do you have for women who would like to get involved in and compete in the sport of bodybuilding?
Make sure you doing it for fun! Make sure  everything else in your life is good and tidy before you start!  It takes a lot from you, and if you don’t have a lot to give, you will be miserable! That’s not what this sport should be.
Also to stay kind and humble. Chances are your going to look beautiful and feel confident. That should never get to your head!  Always be willing to help but never be taken advantage of.  And don’t be scared to ask for help in return!

What is a day-in-the-life of Tarna Alderman like?
Oh its so boring Im sure, It honestly revolves around, my family, my training, my clients and friends. Feeding dogs and cats, doing laundry and cleaning!  Every once in a while something exciting happens and I have something to talk about for a few days!

Favorite Motivational Quote:
“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
~Ghandi

In closing, Who would you like to give a shout out to?
My daughter Lana for being the best and thinking her mom is the coolest! It really helps me want to be a mom she can look up to! =)  I’m really lucky she is so sweet and understanding!

My Fiancé, Martin. I have put him through a loTarna-Alderman-0045t, and he is always supportive and kind. He spent my first season of competing in Iraq and so he came home to a different woman than he left (a bodybuilder).

My Beautiful Mother. Who has always told me I will do something great with my life… Not sure what that is yet… But I’m looking for it!
My best buddy IFBB Pro Nicole Berg.  This woman has gone out of her way to make me a better bodybuilder and a better woman. Helping me with my posing and constantly inspiring me. Never looking for anything in return.

Noel Fuller, for giving the tools to help me ring in my first 1st  place trophies!

Team Dreamquest for being a supportive group of positive peeps, who keep in constant contact.

Kevin Kelly for being my training partner and supportive friend. Thanks for always believing in me!

My friends and family who love me even when I’m hungry or late!

And last but not least God, for love and grace. We don’t all deserve it, but we all need it!
