Spotlight On Body Fitness Competitor: Zelda van Veenhuyzen

Category you coshoot12mpete in: Body Fitness under 1.63cm
Date of birth: 1975/06/07
Hometown: Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa
Career: Sales Manager in a Digital Call Centre

What is your favorite contest prep recipe? I don’t mind eating my food as plain as possible; I do however make a mean chilly chicken! Salmon is also one of my favorite things to eat, crispy skin Salmon with chili feels like a cheat!

What part of your physique are you currently working on? My hamstrings, glutes and back are my weak points at this stage. I have never been as lean while competing as this year- the leanness pointed out the fact that I need some work! Squat squat squat!

Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you. When I 1st started out I use to only focus on cheat meals- I was a chunky monkey and food was and sometimes still is my drug. Best advice is that you should always make sure your food is prepped. I also remind myself that this is now a lifestyle and yes treats are nice but I don’t feel good afterwards! Healthy body healthy mind!

If you could compete in one other event (FBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini) which would it be and why? I would love, love, LOVE to be able to stand in the Physique category and I will be working hard to reach this goal. I don’t mind taking some time off from competing in order to make the necessary changes.

What do you like best about competing? The whole prep; you are on stage for 5min, 10min maybe? I love how every week there are changes in my body and mind. How I become mentally strong and apply the focus needed to compete in all aspects of my life. I love the discipline. And off course all the girly things that go along with competing; selecting your bikini, doing your hair and makeup! Practicing your poses and T Walk! Seeing your fitness friends and making new friends is also rewarding.

What are your goals for the future? To improvshoot17e my weak points and see if I have it in me to gain the size needed for the Physique Division.

Competition history: I started competing in 2005 in the bikini division. That did not go well with my frame hahaha! I then started focusing on gaining size for body fitness. However I wasn’t very consistent with my nutrition; which meant that I never placed Top 3. In 2012 I was on the right track until I got sick, never really thinking I would compete again. This year I made my come back- and I am so proud of what I have achieved.
Miss SA Extreme- 1st place
IFBB Gauteng North Provincials- 1st place
Shows you how important the right diet is!

Next competition: SSN Team Universe 28th September

Hobbies: I am a qualified IFBB judge; I enjoy giving back to the sport in this way. I am also blessed to be married to my best friend- I know it sounds so corny! But it’s true, so spending time with my husband and our dog’s feel likeshoot19 heaven after a hectic week! Competing is my hobby seeing that I work full time.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing? I shouldn’t compare myself to other athletes. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. You should always celebrate how far YOU have come, regardless of your placing.

What is your favorite contest prep supplement? For sure my USN Whey Isolate as well as the USN Phedra-Cut Lipo SF (stimulant free) and USN CLA Rasberry Ketone

Favorite Quote: If I have to go with one that matches my wicked sense of humor. I have to quote Ricky Bobby- “if you are not 1st you are last”. On a serious note “stay humble and let success make the noise”
