What do you feel is the WORST part of contest prep?

The anxious thoughts and feelings leading into a show. I get impatient and just want the competition to get here as soon as possible. Closer to the show, I begin getting nervous and having all kinds of anxious feelings and wanting to know who my competition is.

Would you please tell us a little about your workout schedule?

During contest prep I train 6 days a week. Typically have 3-4 days of fasted cardio in the morning, and then lift 6 days a week. I split up body groups each day. I also implement plyometric training into my weekly workouts to change things up. Plyometrics can do a bikini girl some good ;)

Monday: Shoulders

Tuesday: Legs

Wednesday: Arms

Thursday: Back

Friday: Full Body Circuit

Saturday: Plyometrics or Hamstrings/Glutes

Sunday: REST

In my off-season I do 2-3 days of cardio and lift 5-6 days a week. I definitely built my body this past off-season!

If you had to lose one of your 5 senses, which one would you prefer to lose and why?

Probably sense of smell. Then I wouldn’t be able to smell the aroma of tasty foods during prep!

If you could change one things about this sport what would it be?

Being that the sport is growing, there is such tough competition. When you get to National level shows, ALL of the women competing have great physiques. I love the competitive nature of the sport, but at the same time, you wonder how the judges really choose who brings the best package. Going into certain shows you are sometimes unaware of what that given panel of judges is actually looking for. Consistency across all shows would be one thing I would like to see.

If you had a time capsule what would you put inside it and why?

I think I would put clothes in my time capsule. Since I began competing, I have adopted a healthier lifestyle in general, on and off season. It would be pretty cool to look back and reflect on my clothing that once fit me when I wasn’t the healthiest and then clothes that fit from when I am in my best shape.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

Although I do not have a favorite, I definitely enjoy a place that is warm, beautiful, and most of all relaxing. Somewhere I can get away for a few days, stop thinking, and just relax.

What advice do you have for women who would like to get involvephoto 2d in and compete in the sport of bodybuilding?

Getting started and changing old habits can definitely be a struggle, but once you get accustomed to the lifestyle change, it is so fun and interesting to see how your body changes. You will have your days where you may have doubts, but once you surpass those days, you realize how strong you really are and that it is worth it in the end. If you are interested, give it a shot. It may or may not be for you, but it is definitely worth trying! You will learn things about yourself that you never knew or saw before, and in the end it is a very rewarding experience!

What is a day-in-the-life of Samone like?

I typically wake up around 5:30am to do my morning cardio. I come home, eat breakfast, and get ready for class or work. I am a full-time graduate student, so if I don’t have class, I am at work. I currently work as a Nutrition Curriculum Specialist for my cities Parks and Recreation Department and as a Health Educator for Indiana University’s Health Center. Once I am done with work and school for the day, I head to the gym for my 2nd workout of lifting. When that is over, I head home to shower, eat, and finish any work that needs to be done. Then finally..SLEEP!

Favorite Motivational Quote: “Faith is taking the first step, even when you don’t see the whole staircase”  - Martin Luther King Jr.

In closing, Who would you like to give a shout out to?

First, my coach/team of Rah Kinsey and Matt Kornick. My cousin Rah set me up with Matt in August of 2013 and it has been such a great experience so far! Matt is so dedicated to his athletes and has gotten me so far in just 9 months. I am excited to see what the future has in store for us!

Second, Nathalia Melo. I love her physique as a bikini competitor. She was the first bikini girl I began following when I decided to start competing!
