How has your life changed since you adopted this lifestyle and started competing?

COMPLETELY!!!!! It’s funny because I have always been that girl who had the lean upper body and huge watery legs.  I was embarrassed to even wear shorts during the summer and always wanted to cover my rear up in my bikini.  I never understood why because I worked out every day and thought I followed a “good” diet.  Competing opened my eyes to a whole different fitness level.  That “good” diet I thought I was eating was nothing but preservatives and artificial sweeteners.  I have learned the proper way to train and exactly what my body type needs to help keep a fuller upper body while maintaining smaller and tone legs.  I have also learned that consistency is key.  Nothing happens overnight, not even to those genetically gifted.  You must constantly work hard and remember your goal.

What have you found to be the best way to balance family, friends, career, this lifestyle, etc…

Planning is key!!!!  Like they say, “Failure to plan and planning to fail.”  This is one of the hardest things for me because I am a full time teacher and I love spending time with my family, friends and my dogs.  I have learned that planning ahead of time, prepping food, packing your bag, having a spare bag in the car and at work will all help to eliminate stress.  The more I plan and prepare for the week, the more time I have during the week to come home and relax.  Call me crazy, but I 100% love this lifestyle.  I love going to the gym, prepping my food and having that consistent schedule.  My boyfriend and I enjoy training together.  We push each other and set goals together and that helps keep us both focused.  The best thing I can say for someone who needs help finding that balance is to have one day devoted to spending time with family and/or friends or to doing activities outside of the gym that you love.  Every Sunday I leave open so that I can enjoy, relax and refuel for that next week.

If you could change places with one competitor for the day who would it be and why?

The gorgeous Toni West.  To be a mother and a wife and still roklahoman.2epresent in this sport is beyond me.  She is motivational and is a class act. I would love to see what a day in her shoes is like!

Name two of the most inspirational people in your life and tell why they inspire you.

In my fitness life, hands down Bailey Shuck-Minihan.  She is not only beautiful on the outside, but inside as well.  Bailey is a personal trainer at the gym I train at and she is also married to my trainer.  Bailey does a lot of transformation diets with ladies and it is unreal to see the changes her clients make.  Not only do they change physically, but mentally.  Bailey has a way about her that helps individuals find their inner strength.  There is never a time that Bailey is not motivating someone to just be a better person.  She is the epitome of a STRONG woman in my eyes and has made me become a stronger woman!

In my personal life, my younger sister.  We have been through it all together and I have watched her grow into an amazing woman.  She too lives a healthy lifestyle, is a mother and a full-time nurse.  It amazes me to see her in action.  She makes me want to be a better person!

Tell one recipe or supplement you can’t live without.

I love my food, but I would have to say Gaspari Glycofuse!  It is literally my dessert every day.  I mix it with my protein and glutamine after my workout in a bowl with enough water to make it the consistency of pudding.

Tell about a typical training day for you.  What exercises, how many sets/reps…etc…

Leg Day!!!!!!

Hack Squats ss with leg press ss with sissy squats.  I usually do 3 sets and start with 20 reps.  Each set I add weight and drop reps.  2nd set is usually 15 and last set I shoot for 12 but do 15 if I can.

3 sets of Triple drops on leg extensions ss with lunges ss with seated leg press.  On the leg extensions I usually start with a lighter weight and go heavier doing 15 reps each.  The second set I usually start with a heavier weight and go lighter getting 10, 12 and 15 reps.  On the 3rd set I go back to starting lighter and adding weight shooting for 15 reps each.  Lunges are 10 down and back, starting somewhat lighter and increasing weight every set.  I shoot for 15 reps each time, adding weight each set, on the seated leg press (my arch nemesis).

3 sets of lying limageeg curls ss with either step-ups or pop squats. Depending on the day, I will either triple drop the curls starting lighter and adding weight for 15 or do 20 reps heavier.  Step-ups I concentrate on squeezing and glute up top and pausing for 10 each leg.  Pop squats (the booty shaper) are a girl’s best friend!  I do 20 making sure to really drop and keep low while doing a double bounce on bottom.

Now if you’re not completely wiped out after that, then you are in tip top shape and I need some pointers.  I really try and focus on form AND range with every single movement I do.  Some days are better than others.  My trainer sets a rep count for me to obtain each set, but if I can keep going I do.

In closing, Who would you like to give a shout out to?

My trainer, Jeremy Minihan and his wife Bailey Shuck- Minihan.  Without these two believing in me and constantly pushing me I would not be where I am today!  My best friends Dawn and Jon Haffner who have been there for me day in and day out holding me accountable.  Last but not least, my amazing boyfriend Reece Lewis.  He is my glue that holds everything together!!!
