JMP 1144IFBB Pro Krista Dunn: Desire, Discipline, Determination: Journal 1

Get on that stage with DETERMINATION and Poise!!!!

So you are getting ready to compete......you might very well be asking yourself "what was I thinking??" This suit is too tiny, there will be too many people, what if I don't look right, what if I make a mistake.....You are not alone. Everyone has said those very words. I think that it is important to know that every show is a learning experience. You need to relax and have fun showing off all of your hard work!

I have done 14 shows and have learned something from each one. Everything from posing mistakes or small posing improvements to tanning tips. There is something to take away from every show.

I don't think it matters how many shows a person has done, there is always something that can be improved upon.  I think that there are small changes within the posing that occur as the sport progresses and an athlete needs to keep up with these changes in order to stay fresh and up to date.  There may be small tricks or tips that other competitors have, or use, that are helpful, be friendly and pay attention!! Yes, those girls are your competition but they are not your enemy! They have worked just as hard as you have, have gone through everything you have gone through now LEARN from each other!!

Always keep an open mind and pay attention, listen to what the judges tell you. They are your key to success. Get feedback but don't let the feedback that you receive make you angry, make it make you hungry to improve ~ to get back into the gym and make a better you.

If you have never done K Dunn-10a show, then ask questions, find people that have competed and ask them questions, ask a million questions....it's OK we have all been there and it is scary. Having knowledge about what to expect is what will make it less scary and more fun!!

Once you have the proper tools then it is imperative to practice, practice, practice!! Looking relaxed on stage is not as easy as it sounds, but a relaxed and confident competitor is much more appealing to the judges and the audience than a stiff, scared to death competitor!!

When you are preparing for a show, do not be afraid to pose in front of strangers, or worry about who is watching you. You are about to stand on a stage in an itsy bitsy bikini in front of a very large group of strangers, so toss those fears aside!! You have worked very hard to achieve the body of your dreams, you have sacrificed and endured months of depravation for this moment so ENJOY! Have fun! It is your time to shine!!

But remember, do not beat yourself up because you made a mistake or didn't do as well as you hoped. Take something from the show and make improvements and come out next time, better then the last.

You chose to do this, you made the commitment, you have the desire, you have shown the dedication, now get on that stage with DETERMINATION! (And poise!)   :) enjoy yourself!
