Candice Keene's Fitspiration: Make it or Break it for the New Year

Candice Keene's Fitspiration: Make it or Break it for the New Year

The holidays passed and the New Year is right around the corner.  Every year we all make our New Year’s Resolutions…we plan to exercise more, eat healthier, make a list of our goals for the year, plan to work more efficiently and productively..well you get the point, because we all doDSC 4977 (2) it every year.  But the challenge to do these changes or become a better you is tackling that battle with yourself, the road to personal growth.  Now these goals or resolutions, I like to call ‘making or breaking’ personal habits or behaviors, requires discipline and a healthy routine in a positive environment.

They say it takes 21 days to make or break a habit.  I don’t know how true that really is, but it sure does sound good!  I know for me, I find it is pretty effective.  For example, it takes a good few weeks from the start of my prep that food cravings go away and my daily ‘rituals’ become second nature.  With any habit, it is all about REPITION.  When performing repetitive actions or behaviors, they are linked with the brain.  Repetitive behaviors form what it is called synaptic pathways in the brain, and they get ‘worn in’ so to speak.  While every brain is different, with aspects of experience and personality, it is very adaptive.  REPETITION REPITITION REPITITION!!  The more a behavior is repeated, the more likely that it will instinctive.

Breaking a habit is more complicated than making one.  So the best way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit.  Here are some steps to increase your chances of successful habit making/breaking:

· Baby Steps!  Don’t try to do everything at once.  Baby steps will prevent becoming overwhelmed and discouraged.
· Try to change one habit at a time.
· Write down the habit you want to change, and write down specific plans or steps for achieving that goal.
· Repeat that behavior you are aiming for as often as you can.

REPITITION, REPITITION, REPITITION!!

To form healthy habits requires discipline.  A habit is something you don’t have to think about doing.  When you do something enough, you are disciplined about it, and you put in the time.  And eventually, you don’t have to think about it…it becomes ROUTINE.

So for all your New Year’s resolutions you wish to follow through with, treat them as habits.  WorkDSC 5169 diligently, productively, effectively, efficiently…and with a little bit of patience, you will find yourself on the road to a new you!!

Happy New Year’s Everyone!!  Xoxo CK
