Name: Allen “Watty Watt” Watkins
Date of birth: Unknown, (I was in orphanage in another country and it was burned down during war) but I do have an assigned birth date in November.
Hometown: Arvada, CO.
Career: I have owned a Restoration Company and a few Restaurants, which I have sold and now I work as a athletic coach, helping athletes reach their goals. Currently I work with help athletes out of Armbrust Pro Gym, at 4240 Kipling St, Wheat Ridge, CO. Dylan Armbrust and the crew (Andrea, Shelly, Matt, Mike, Angie, Sonya, Steph and Heath) are awesome. I am always looking at other ventures to grow financially.
Sports background: I started wrestling at a very young age. I received a scholarship to wrestle at the University of Oklahoma and then to the University of Wyoming. I competed in MMA for several years until I was injured. I have competed in many sports, and have coached many individuals and teams at collegiate, university and professional levels. I competed in bodybuilding for several years.
What do you like best about being a diet coach? Helping people transform their body physical and mentally, is very rewarding to me. Many people come to me for a number of reasons and they are passionate and excited about reaching new benchmarks. It is an awesome feeling to be apart of their process and watch their transformation.
Competition history:I have competed in many sports at a variety of levels (professional, international, national and regional). I won a few and lost a few. I have tried to pass on what I have learned from my own mistakes and experiences to the athletes I coach.
What Cardio Type Would You Recommend for Fat Loss and or Pre Contest, High Intensity Interval Training (H.I.I.T) or Low Intensity Steady State (L.I.S.S.)? When applying cardio to an athletes training regimen I try to consider the time of day they are doing it, the nutrients they are consuming, their body type, their specific body composition, their goal and many other elements. I use both methods to reach optimal results.
How do you diet your clients? Using the carb cycling approach, keto? I like to use carbs in a person’s plan. I may keep the carbs low in specific phases of the diet or cut them out, depending on the situation. I have implemented keto diets to clients and I have had great results from this approach. The approach I use depends on the person I am working with. No matter what approach we implement the person must be committed and put the work in. I believe there are many different ways to skin a cat, so there are many ways to reach an individual's goals.
What is your protocol for filing out days prior to stepping onstage? This question can be answered after you determine from the above question, which approach you are going to use to diet, what they look like, how they respond and many other factors.
What is the most challenging aspect of dieting clients? The most challenging thing for me is to keep the client’s dreams of becoming their hero in perspective. Every person comes to me and usually has some idea of what they want and they usually reference some other athlete or person. I remind them that they are their own person and they need to be the best they can be.
What supplements do you recommend the most to your clients? I recommend many different supplements, but I first try to inquire what the client needs and what they may be prohibited to take. I like for people to take, multi vitamins/minerals, glutamine, protein (whey, soy, casein), BCAA’s, etc.
What is the oddest question you have ever been asked by a client? I thought it was curious that a young lady asked me,“What color the floor would be at her show.” I responded with a concerned look, “I have no idea.” Another woman asked if she should or should not show for the evening portion of the show. I explained since there were only a few women in her class it would be to her best interest to come back…in case you were wondering, she did!
Do you also provide training programs to clients? If so, how do you determine the best program for each individual? I do provide programs to my clients. I try to look at their physique and inquire about passed regimens they have done. I will then instruct them on what I feel will help them make gains in the areas they need. I will implement any necessary changes through the prep depending on their progress.
What formula do you use to determine how many macro nutrients to give each client? I like to use the ADMCTA, “Alliakbah Divisional Matrix Conversion Table Approach”; it is a combination of J/K, LOL and pulling your leg. It depends on the individual and how they feel and their specific needs.
Do you have clients manipulate water prior to getting onstage? If so how? I do use water manipulation but in some cases or some individuals I do not manipulate their water. More often than not there is water restriction.
