How To Achieve Flawless Skin Before A Competition

flawless-skinWhen it comes to competing on stage, grooming and personal appearance is not supposed to count against, or for, your final score. But in reality it does. Why do you think so many physique athletes and bodybuilding professionals experiment with the right tan and skin products? Because standing on stage with flawless skin makes a difference.
Acne breakouts, skin tags, and dull skin are only some skin related issues you may deal with in contest preparation phase. Thankfully, you can take care of such problems and consider other skincare measures to achieve flawless skin before your flex on stage. Here are some tips to help you out:

Thin & hydrated skin
Thin skin translates into enhanced muscle definition when you pose on stage. To achieve thin skin, gradually cut sodium from your meals. This includes eliminating dietary sources of sodium such as protein shakes, egg whites, and other condiments (check all labels to ensure no sodium is passing through your lips).
Increase your fiber intake as it helps in removing excess water from your muscles. Low-glycemic carbohydrates such as flaxseed and brown rice are great low-calorie sources of fiber. It’s also important to drink plenty of water as it helps muscles release excess water through urination and sweat. A properly hydrated skin will also enhance muscle definition.

Treat Skin Conditions
Makeup, bronzer, sweat, and stress can result in acne breakouts and impede your aim of having flawless skin on stage. For acne treatment, use Benzoyl Peroxide in a moisturizing gel base; this combination will prevent the growth of bacteria that cause acne and keep your skin hydrated. Also, don’t forget to exfoliate your skin a few days before the event.
Skin tags may also appear from hormonal changes due to increased supplementation. Home remedies such as duct tape removal are not recommended as they may damage the appearance of the skin. A skin tag remover with homeopathic ingredients will help avoid scarring before a competition. Such solutions can be directly applied to the affected area and work to gently flake tags away. The routine needs to be followed 3-4 weeks prior to the competition day to allow enough time for complete removal.
Another skin issue that can plague a competitor is stretch marks. These can be avoided by making sure you don’t bulk up massively during the off-season. It’s better to aim for slow gains. Preexisting stretch marks can be treated with Vitamin E lotion that keeps the skin soft and moisturized.

Hair Removal
Smooth, hair-free skin is one of the essentials of looking great on stage. Improper hair removal methods can do more harm than good, so follow a method that suits your skin type.
Shaving is the most convenient option if you want quick removal before a competition. However, if your skin gets irritated or is prone to razor bumps then moisturize with a noncomedogenic product for a soothing effect.
Waxing is another option you can go for depending on your hair growth. Remember to apply a rich moisturizer and a soothing aloe-based toner to diminish irritation, redness, and skin tightness after hair removal.
Though depilatory creams offer another solution, skip this option if you have sensitive skin because they may cause irritation. If you have coarse or dark hair, consider laser hair removal treatments as it negates any trauma to the hair follicles and their oil glands units which can make pores appear larger.
