FitSpire Of The Week: Kayla Itsines, “Health is happiness"

kayla

Kayla Itsines, age 23, of Adelaide, South Australia shares part of her story with Rx Muscle.

Q: When did you get started on your fitness career/journey? What made you want to become more than just the average person living a healthy and fit lifestyle?

A: I have been a trainer for nearly six years and have spent the majority of this time doing one-on-one sessions. I recently took my work to the online world and it has flourished greater than I could have ever imagined. So many people enjoyed the training style in my videos and kept requesting that I release a book of workouts.

January 2014 I released a training program and nutritional guidelines that are for women only. Girls of all ages, all over the world have been enjoying my programs ever since and there will definitely be more coming soon.

I have a dream to end confusion within the health and fitness industry. Fads and scams in this industry have created so much distrust and insecurity around weight-loss programs. I want all people to understand their body, have a place to learn about health and fitness and in turn feel confident and happy.

Q: Do you consider this as your punnamed-5art/full-time job or a hobby?

A: HUGELY full-time. I work 24 hours a day!

Q: There are many people that motivate and are inspired by you. How does that make you feel knowing that there are people who take the time to see what you are doing day to day?

A: I feel extremely lucky that my 700,000 amazing online followers take time from their busy day to check out my pages! They inspire me as much as I inspire them.

Q: How does it feel knowing that somewhere, you are actually helping someone by motivating them to achieve their personal goals, just by posting your personal life and achievements on social media?

A: It's an incredible feeling to be able to help girls all over the world! I feel very lucky to have a job which allows me to do that on a daily basis.

Q: Is there anyone who has motivated or inspired you to become the person you are today?

A: My mission is what inspires me. I have a dream to end confusion within the health and fitness industry. Fads and scams in this industry have created so much distrust and insecurity around weight-loss programs. I want all people to understand their body, have a place to learn about health and fitness and in turn feel confident and happy.

Q: How does your family feel about your lifestyle? What would you say to someone whose family does not support their lifestyle?

A: My family is happy that I am healthy and fit. They support the choices I make. If they don't support a goal to live healthier then, unfortunately, that's not much support at all. We can't choose our family, so we have to love them haha! But we can choose our lifestyle.

Q: What is your diet like? Do you eat clean all year round?

A: Like everyone else I have my own few dishes that I love to have on repeat. These are the ones I have most regularly at each time of the day, spread out with at least a few hours in between. Because I work a ‘split-shift’ type day my meals are very consistent.

Breakfast: toast with poached eggs, avocado, and tomatounnamed-6 plus a cup of herbal tea. I love berry tea in the mornings.

After morning shift: one piece of fruit.

Lunch: chicken yiros (a wrap) with homemade tzatziki, lettuce, tomato, and onion.

Afternoon snack: tuna salad and a piece of fruit.

Dinner: Avgolemono (fluffy lemon and rice soup) with chicken.

Evening: I always have a peppermint or chamomile tea in the evening.

Q: What is your favorite cheat meal? How do you control yourself from going overboard when you decide to treat yourself?

A: I have a weak spot for Tiramisu, which is a Greek coffee flavored dessert. Because I am lactose intolerant and this has dairy in it, I can only have it once every so often… but this is probably a good thing. I've include information about cheat meals in my Nutrition HELP Guide to help girls stay on track!

Q: Do you take any supplements? What do you think is one of the most important supplements someone should take who is training constantly?

A: I take a multivitamin every day. I recommend taking a multivitamin to most of my clients.
