#Fitspire of the Week: Collin Joseph: What the mind can believe, the body will achieve!

What gives sophoto 2meone the right to consider themselves a successful fitness model or personality in the industry? Is it the amount of covers one can land because of their physique?  Could it be how many sponsors they are able to grab to help support them? Or is it the amount of money one can make between different modeling/ fitness gigs?

Everyone will tell you something different, but if there is one thing that is hard to disagree with, it’s the ability to promote and market yourself to others.  Social media has begun to play a huge role in self marketing as an athlete, competitor, fitness model or personality in the Industry. These days, you don't need a modeling agency to help promote you, or a company to take you on as a sponsored athlete in order for you to be seen in the industry.

Someone who once could have been just an average fit person, now has the ability to transform themselves into a “Social Media Fitness Star!”  If you put in the time, the effort, and truly have a passion for fitness, you can change yourself from just a face with a body, to a bona fide personality – someone able to inspire and motivate others on their own fitness journey!

Collin Joseph, age 25, is proof that if you put in the time, effort, hard work in the gym AND the kitchen, and use social media as a tool to self-promote, you can turn your average health/fit lifestyle into a network that reaches out to endless amounts of people who want to take the time out to follow your journey.

Q: Tell me about your competitive history.

A: I’ve participated in high school football, wrestling, grappling team, Muay Thai kickboxing, MMA, and Men’s Physique.

Q: When did you get started on your fitness career/journey? What made you want become more than just the average person living a healthy and fit lifestyle?

A: I began working out and lifting weights when I was 13 and joined my high school football team. As soon as I began lifting weights and noticed my body changing, I was hooked. When I was 14 I had started boxing with my father who was an accomplished boxer.

In my senior year of high school, I began grappling which was a mixture of judo, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and wrestling. After high school, I decided I no longer wanted to pursue football and on my 19th birthday I had my first MMA fight.

I continued to compete in regional and provincial grappling tournaments and Muay Thai and MMA until I was 25.

After a break up I had fell into a bit of a slump until I made the decision to focus all my efforts and time into something productive. I had a friend who was a bikphoto 4ini competitor and it had always amazed me the dedication and commitment it took to compete so I had decided I would start training for a competition.

Nine weeks out from a provincial competition, I started my contest prep and I placed 3rd in my first provincial event and qualified for Canadian Nationals and I placed 10th there.

Throughout my contest prep, it amazed me the changes I could make to my body and the progress, so I have become addicted to the lifestyle and I love competing and challenging myself physically.

Q: Being that you have a loyal social media following, what is some advice that you would offer someone wanting to increase their popularity in the Fitness industry? What tip can you give someone to help them build their following as well?

A: I would recommend getting out there. Go to all the competitions and meet new people and network. Compete often to stay relevant in the fitness industry and just be yourself and be genuine.

There are too many insincere people associated with the fitness industry so stand out.

My approach to my social media is to make genuine posts and relevant, educational and funny posts.

Q: Do you consider this as your part/full time job or a hobby?

A: I would like to make competing and being a fitness inspiration and leader my full-time job. Currently I am a personal trainer and online fitness coach.

Q: There are many people that motivate and are inspired by you. How does that make you feel knowing that there are people who take the time to see what you are doing day to day?

A: The biggest compliment I can receive is when people tell me that something that I do or say has motivated them. I truly feel blessed to hear that. I enjoy helping people better themselves.

Q: Is there anyone who has motivated or inspired you to become the person you are today?

A: I have always been motivated and inspired by people who have a great work ethic and mental strength. Sean Shark, Greg Plitt would be my top inspirations.

Q: How does your family feel about your lifestyle? What would you say to someone whose family does not support their lifestyle?

A: My family has always supported me in all my sports and competitions. I would tell them as long as it makes you happy and is hephotoalthy and productive and you're passionate about it, do it!

Q: Of all the social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), what do you think is the most effective to use in order to market yourself in this industry?

A: I personally believe Instagram is because it is much more positive. Facebook in my opinion has far too much drama and negativity associated with it. Twitter is not as informative and inspirational with the posting methods.

Q: What is your diet like? Do you eat clean all year round?

A: I generally eat clean all year round because I like staying fairly lean. My meals consist of lots of chicken, turkey, rice, vegetables, eggs, egg whites, oats, etc.

Q: What is your favorite cheat meal? How do you control yourself from going overboard when you decide to treat yourself?

A: Pepperoni pizza and brownies are my all-time favorites! I only order or make what I can eat in one sitting, that way I don’t overdo myself.

Q: Do you take any supplements? What do you think is one of the most important supplements someone should take who is training constantly?

A: I take a daily multivitamin, isolate protein, glutamine, BCAA’s, carbohydrate supplement, digestive enzymes, omegas 3,6,9 and a pre-workout supplement.

After your vitamins, of course, I would also recommend CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) as the most important one to me, and which I feel made a great change in my nutrition and training.
