Nina’s Story: A New Outlook on Life! Know Your Worth!

Nina

I believe that there is a purpose for every person you meet in your life. Some are there to test you, some will use you, while some will teach you and bring out the best in you. However, don't let anyone you meet ever break your soul.

My name is Nina. I am dedicated, hard-working and passionate about life. I believe success in one area of life can lead to successes in others and that hard work and perseverance pay dividends with all of life's endeavors.

Ever siimage(3)nce I can remember, I've had a growing passion for motivating and inspiring others. I use my personal experiences from working toward and achieving my own life goals to understand anyone who I believe needs to be inspired and motivated to love themselves and to be healthy and happy.

Coming from a family of seven children, I grew up in a high stress environment. The people around me were not very driven, however I've always pushed myself to do my best. I have learned to understand and appreciate the strength I gained from such an environment.

I was an average student growing up, an average daughter, sister and friend. I had a love for arts and expressed myself through any medium I could. I was an athlete and competed in cheerleading for many years, which helped me overcome my social awkwardness. I graduated high school in 2007. I then attended a design school in downtown Chicago where I studied interior design and architecture.

I moved to Germany in 2009 while pursuing my bachelor’s degree, where I lived and traveled for two years alongside my fiancé at the time. I moved back to the states and began my career in cosmetology shortly after. During this time my relationship continued but the stress and struggle, the ups and the downs eventually had me spiraling down. I became the victim of insecurity and abandonment.

In 2012, I was diagnosed with HSIL (high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion) which can lead to cervical cancer. After many thorough procedures, one being a LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure), an ablation, and radiation, they were able to control the affected areas. I decided from that point on that my health and my life were a blessing and decided to take every step I could to better both.

My love for fitness grew. I now had a drive I neimagever thought existed. It pushed me, it tested me. There were no limits, only plateaus. I began to realize who I was meant to be. I became in touch with my darkest fears, fantasies and dreams. I began to create a life for myself where I could experience them. I was free.

If there's one thing I've learned over this time, it’s that you have to stand on your own two feet and stand up for yourself and know your worth. There are those that would give anything to see you fail, but I know giving anyone that satisfaction would be a betrayal to myself.

Never lose yourself while trying to hold onto someone or something. I once wasted time and sanity doing so.

I know one thing for certain, I may have lost people and things I loved, I may lose things in my future, but no matter what happens in life, losing myself is never an option again.

It's now 2014 and I'm healthier and happier than I've ever been. I am now training for my first NPC Bikini competition with the help and inspiration of my wonderful coach Lauren Triani, and I couldn't be more proud of myself.

So who am I? Well, that's still in the making. I'm working on who I know I want to become and who I know I'm capable of being… the best person I can be. Each day is a lesson learned. Each day is a blessing... a chance to start fresh.

I dedicate this and all my efforts to my brother Robbie who is currently in the battle against testicular cancer. I love you. Your courage and positive attitude and outlook on life bring others strength and hope.
