Spotlight On NPC Bikini Competitor: Danielle Day

Category photo1you compete in: Bikini
Date of birth: July 1, 1994
Hometown: Arvada, CO
Career: I am student at MSU Denver, and hope to one day be an elementary school teacher.

What is your favorite contest prep recipe?

Ooo, that’s a tough one since I absolutely LOVE to cook and experiment with prep friendly recipes, but my favorite so far has to be sweet potato protein pancakes! Pancakes are my absolute favorite food, and I made up the recipe for the perfect cake-like pancake, that is almost 100% carb free.

What part of your physique are you currently working on?
I’m trying to build my shoulders! I’ve always been smaller on top, so trying to get these babies to grow has been quite the challenge.

Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you.

Have fun! This is somephoto4thing that you are doing for yourself, no one is forcing you, and cheating on your diet or workouts, or beating yourself up is only harming yourself, no one else.

If you could compete in one other event (FBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini) which would it be and why?

I used to act and sing and I definitely still consider myself a performer, so I think that Physique would be such a blast. It would be so fun to experiment with choreography and music.

Why NPC: Oh gosh, I guess the few competitors that I knew and idolized were in the NPC. I had never really considered anything else.

What do you like best about competing? I absolutely love meeting all the incredible and inspiring women, and I am constantly amazed at the support and love the women (and men) in the NPC have for each other. I have met some of my closest friends and confidants through my team, Elite Physique, and even if I never won a single award, that alone would make everything worthwhile.

What are yoSO5ur goals for the future? Who knows?! I am young and very ambitious, but right now I’m definitely still learning so much about this sport, and myself, and I have no idea where I will end up. I have huge dreams of Nationals, and pro cards, and sponsorships, but right now I am just trying to take it day by day and enjoy every step of the journey.

Competition history: Colorado Natural Open: 2nd place in first ever bikini class A, 1st place Novice class B, 1st place Open class B.

Next competition: The Rocky Mountain Championships on November 15th

Hobbies: Outside of working out? Haha, between school, training, and work (I’m a server at Buffalo Wild Wings), I don’t have a ton of free time. However, I thoroughly enjoy just relaxing with a movie or a good book. I also have a newfound love for cooking, which will definitely be a bit more exciting once the off-season comes around!

What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing?photo5

Every single day is a journey in itself, and you have to take it one step at a time. Life gets so crazy and stressful sometimes, and if you are always looking ahead and worrying about the future, you will miss so many wonderful moments of everyday life.

What is your favorite contest prep supplement? Does coffee count? I’m an addict. Other than that, I am currently using “Max Out” pre-workout by iForce Nutrition. I love that it gives me an awesome pump and increased focus without making me feel too crazy or jittery.

Favorite Quote: “Work until your idols become your rivals.” It reminds me that every single one of those girls that I idolize were once in my position, and the only thing keeping me from getting to where they are is HARD WORK, time, and a lot of perseverance.
