Preparing for Success

After Coaching, Training, Prepping andphoto(17) Working With literally Thousands of Clients over the last 15+ Years I can tell you that without hesitation one of the LARGEST commonalities to peoples Failure is Failing to Plan! There is a very good reason why EVERY Client that I work with has “If You’re not Planning to Succeed, You are Preparing to Fail” written on their Training Program and we spend quite some time discussing this quote! The reason why I do this? Well, to put it bluntly… IT IS TRUE!

Not only is it True of Living The Fitness Lifestyle, but it is also True of every aspect of our Lives and to me that is what is SO amazing about Fitness! When done the right way it can enhance and mirror every other aspect of our Lives… POWERFUL!   I would like to focus on one of the main areas where I see people fail to plan… Eating! You see if I was to sit here and tell you that everything is linear and we can write the “Perfect” Training Program down on paper and that you need to stick to it exactly or you will never get results, I would  certainly not be telling you the truth! The fact of the matter is that things WILL come up, you WILL get busy, you WILL have unexpected errands to run, you WILL have last minute appointments, Life is about as Dynamic as it gets and if you Plan on Succeeding  then you had BETTER have a Plan in place! There is no sense in comparing yourself to others and how they have it better, because someone WILL always have it better and someone WILL always have it worse, what matters is what we do with the cards that we are dealt! Are you Prepared to play your hand or are you ready to fold?! The choice is yours and starts with Proper Preparation!

One of the best things that you can do to Plan for Success is actually also a HUGE timesaver and that is preparing the bulk of your Meals all at once and portioning them into Tupperware’s that are ready to go whenever you need them! This can very easily be done on one or two days a week, I can tell you from years of experience cooking at the Fire Station that it takes no more time to make 10 Meals than it takes to make 1 Meal, you also save yourself a ton of individual clean up and prep time and we all can use more time! The next step is finding a method to transport these meals that way they are always with you and ready when you need them, you can do something as basic as get a cooler and carry that with you or keep it with you at work. What I prefer and honestly can say is one of the best Fitness Inventions to come out in a while is a Six Pack Bag, basically like carrying around a lightweight refrigerator that is highly organized and designed for this exact purpose! Another important step is to always have what I like to call “Alternate Meals” ready to go and with you, one of the easiest things to do is get some High Quality Protein Bars that work into your Meal Plan! I prefer to use Quest Protein Bars, not only because they Taste Amazing and are ACTUALLY Healthy for you, but they DON’T melt into a big pile of goo if you keep them in your pocket, car, purse, etc… NICE!!! I also like to keep a few portable foods that don’t go bad anytime soon on hand, things such as Tuna Fish Pouches, Beef Jerky, Nuts, Dried Fruit, etc… I always keep a Ziploc Bag with a Tuna Fish Pouch, a Portion of Nuts, Dried Fruit, a Napkin, a Spoon, and even a Piece of Gum in my pocket of my Firefighter Gear, that way if we get a long call or I am in the middle of eating and we get a call I ALWAYS have a meal ready to go! When I eat it, I just replace it!

I hope these very simple tips will help you on your Journey to Living The Fitness Lifestyle and Loving It! Remember that “If You are not Planning to Succeed, You are Preparing to Fail” and that is the TRUTH!
