Meet MP Competitor Mateo Aguirre

WithMateoAguirre3 us today is MP Competitor Mateo Aguirre.  Congrats on a great showing!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

I finally found the courage in the summer of 2011 to pull the trigger and prep for my first bodybuilding competition for the fall of 2012.  Everything was going according to plan but 3 weeks before the Adela Classic; I was encouraged by my coach to give the Physique division a shot before I got too lean and to give me an idea and “taste” of what it would be like to prep and step on stage. Well, I liked that taste so much that I ended up doing 6 shows in about 4 months and pretty much put bodybuilding prep on the back burner- for now. My Auspicious Journey has just begun.

Can you tell us a little about the show in which you most recently competed?

I finished up the 2012 season with The Texas State Naturals in Austin, TX. A drug-tested show promoted by IFBB Pro Dave “The Texas Shredder” Goodin.

How did you feel after pre-judging?

I competed in Physique Masters & Open. I was thrilled to make first call-out in both categories.  I felt great after pre-judging.  I was finally was getting a shot at beating some of those youngsters in the Open Class.

How did you feel about the final results of the show?

I was ecstatic! It was crazy. This was my last show of the season and it ended up being my strongest yet. I placed in the top 5 in both categories! 2nd in Masters & 4th in Open Class.  This show qualified me for a shot at a pro card at the Team Universe Competition in New Jersey. So, Jersey here I come!

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?

Overall, I like that the NPC added this category to their bodybuilding shows.  I believe it is opening the doors for many athletes and individuals who love living a fit and healthy lifestyle regardless of the competitions.  The Physique division is creating an outlet for many competitive guys out there that still want to compete after they’re done with high school or college sports. So far, competing in the Men’s Physique division has given me the ability to show regular people that you don’t need to be 200+ pounds or take steroids to be successful in the fitness competition circuit. I’m very proud to be a drug-free competitor and am extremely happy to have won or placed in the top 10 at every show I’ve competed in so far. I still have a long way to go but my physique will always be a work in progress.

Believing that my visions and dreams will eventually become a reality keeps me on track. Putting it in the hands of the Almighty and letting him lead the way. My Auspicious Fitness Team, AKA my clients, my teammates, my friends, my family. They are my rock. Also, the camaraderie I’ve been able to establish with competitors across the nation.  It’s neat how we compete against each other but we’re always supporting and helping each other out.

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:

I found my calling: I found the reason why I was put on this earth. Words can’t describe the feeling. I wish it upon everyone. Oh yea, and my obliques are not photoshopped J
