Meet MP Competitor Cory Johnson

With twous today is Cory Johnson.  Congrats on a great showing!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

I’ve been an athlete my whole life, and after I graduated from high school in 2009 I started working out hard for hockey. I grew to love the time in the gym almost as much as I loved playing hockey and after seeing some results, I was there lifting hard every day.

I had always known about bodybuilding and just recently found out about Men’s Physique, but it never really crossed my mind to compete until I met my trainer Adam Bonilla. We talked about some things and I pretty much just decided to make the jump and do a show!

Michael Lee, Men’s Physique Division interview

Congrats mike lee1on a great showing!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

As crazy as it may sound, I never thought about competing in the NPC until I was repeatedly asked by gym-goers, “Do you compete?”  Prior to my first NPC show, the March 10, 2013 Denver Open, I had never competed, and never given much thought to competing.  It was only after doing research online, finding out about the NPC, in particular the Men’s Physique Division, in which I wanted to compete. So, at my first show, I took first place and overall that night.  I took home 5 awards and I would consider that deciding to compete was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Can you tell us a little about the show in which you just competed?

I just recently competed in the NPC Steel City Championship in Pueblo, Colorado.  It was an amazing show!  I took 1st place in Men Physique, Class C Open as well as 1st place overall in Men’s Physique Open.  I also recently competed at Team U in NJ...

Meet MP Competitor Ed Honn

Congrats photo (5)on a great showing!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

I was always a fan of bodybuilding, but my body type and look are more suited for success in the men’s physique division.  It’s hard not to consider competing when several of your co-workers (I work as a personal trainer) have competed, and everyone continually asks you, “so when are you going to do a show?”  Prodding from my co-workers and my current coach (national-level bodybuilder Eric Posejpal) pushed me into my first competition...

Withyellow shorts us today is MP Competitor Bryan Waring.  Congrats on a great showing!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

Well I knew I never wanted to be a bodybuilder, so I immediately took interest judging off the criteria it presented. The model, Beach body, fitness look I knew was just for me. The introduction of the board shorts was also of major interest to me, I couldn’t see myself stepping on stage in those little trunks bodybuilders wear.

Meet MP Competitor Michael Aylward

Congrats049 on a great showing and getting back on stage! What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

After having three open heart surgeries, I knew I couldn’t carry the size I did as a bodybuilder, so men’s physique seemed like a perfect fit. My interest increased when I learned that the two top competitors in each height class receive pro cards at the Master’s National. At age 41, this was great news.

Meet MP Competitor Devan Pina

Withdevan pina 3 us today is Devan Pina. Congrats on a couple great showings on the MP stage!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

-After suffering a motorcycle accident and undergoing surgery, I was told I may never be able to get into the military or police academy because of my injuries. I was also told specifically I would never be able to “Lift weights”… So that is exactly what I decided to do. I got a gym membership in October 2012, attended a bodybuilding show in November and began training in December.
