Every time I try to go high fat, I break out with acne.  Is this just my test levels increasing? Will the acne clear when the test levels stabilize?

DP:  The only dietary fats that'll make you break out (possibly) are saturated fats.  Essential fats and monosaturated fats actually make my skin look better.  What I notice (and I'm prone to acne) is that sugars, chocolate, and deep fried foods make me break out.  Clean fats (essential and monounsaturated fats like macadamia nut oil) keep my skin clear........ Sometimes spiking testosterone and thus DHT levels will cause acne breakouts; especially if you're taking an anti-aromatase.  Remember, if you decrease estrogen, you'll increase DHT.  My TESTOSTOYLZE product lower both estrogen and DHT and thus will reduce the likelihood of acne..

Dave do you recommend glutamine on this diet or not??

DP: It's not necessary as a supplement; it's not even essential.  Your body makes plenty of glutamine when dietary protein ingestion is high.  According to Dr. Scott Connelly, too much glutamine can actually make you fat.

Hi Dave, what do you think about walking in place for the cardio? I ask this because I don't have a treadmill at home and I think the best time to perform cardio would be first thing in the mourning on a empty stomach and I figured since the cardio has to be low intensity, walking in place should be okay but I'm not quite too sureif it's the same as walking on the treadmill. What's your opinion on this? Thanks a lot.

DP:  Go outside for a walk.

Stimulants: I know you don't like them.... But a caffeine-containing pre-workout drink does wonders for my energy and pump... You say 'save for off-season', but it seems like this would be MORE beneficial in a calorie-defecit/pre-contest mode to keep energy levels high... Do you ever 'let' someone you're prepping keep some kind of stimulant for pre-workout?? Would it make a difference if the person was natural or not?

DP:  You don't want to use stimulants because they raise cortisol, which is tougher to combat when you're dieting. Also, many of these drinks have carbs.  Personally, if my clients need a pick-me-up before training, I tell them to have a black coffee with stevia in it!

Dave, what do you know about the Karvonen formula, specifically pertaining to using one's heart rate reserve to prescribe one's target heart rate? Moreover, what % of HRR should one use while in ketosis?

DP:  Don't overthink this. My guideline is to keep your heart rate under 130bpm while doing cardio.  Most of my clients use a HR of about 100-110bpm.  You should not be straining or short of breath.  Remember, it's not about how many calories you're burning; it's about why type of calories (fat or carbs) you're burning! If intensity level is too high, you'll burn more calories; however, they'll be coming mostly from carbs (not fats)

Dave can I supplement with Fiber while on the keto diet?

I've been using your diet and recently started to put creatine mono back in my supplement regime... now my urine has a strong smell - kind of like cell-tech... Am I not absorbing the creatine? What should I do?

DP:  You should be using a plain creatine monohydrate, not something with a million grams of sugar.  Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and see if that helps!  Look for my new LIQUID CREATINE product due to come out in another month or so. It's 100% solubilized and absorbable!

What is your recommended daily salt intake for a bodybuilder in either competitive mode or for general use and why

DP: I don't use numbers, but I recommend you salt all your food and take in plenty of sodium, especially when dieting.  Sodium helps draw fluids into the muscle which is critical when you are not eating carbs.

What would you advise for loose skin, i lost roughly 25-30 kilos 18 months ago as a result my skin isnt as tight i would like, currently im below 10% BF after following your diet. Any tips or ideas on helping it tighten would be appreciated. Im 23 if this helps

DP:  There is not much you can do except give it time and don't get fat again.

Hey Dave first of all I have to say big up to yourself and John on your new ventures onwards and upwards and so on! This is a question that I have asked in the past but I did not get an answer so I thought id give it a shot on the new site. this question might be a little odd but it's one that has been wrecking my head for the past 18months.

18 months ago I was in the final week before a show here in Ireland I was finished all my test and was running in on clen, t3, winstrol and just started the diuretic aldactone for 2 days then the worst thing ever happened I got a call that my sister was in a bad car crash which she died from 3 days later.

As was is the case here in Ireland the diet was immediately over and the next week consisted of bad food and alcohol.

My problem is this ever since that day if I go to train my abs after any training session they go into bad seizures, I know it has something to do with coming off the diet so quick and going from clean to crap but nobody seems to know how to get the seizures to stop.

I told you this was an odd one but I hope that you can help

DP:  When you say seizures, I assume you mean they cramp up. It sounds like your electrolytes are severely messed up.  I would suggest increasing your sodium and fluid intake quite a bit and stop taking the Aldactone

I am on test prop at 500mg per week and starting on tren acetate at 8 weeks out @ 100 mg eod. does this sound fully achievable?

DP: The drugs only help.  Your diet and cardio must also be ideal.

This past week my creatine has been getting harder and lumpier, what the hell is going on, this happened before, and i got a new tub, the creatine is not as fine as when i first got it, will it be OK, what should i do to prevent this from happening in the future

DP:  You need to keep the creatine in a cool/dry area. It sounds like moisture is getting in there.

My questions is can I use your MMA diet (with virgin coconut oil pre-workout) to apply to a training regimen like this or will I need carbs? I imagine they (mma athletes) train as hard or harder

DP:  Yes, it should work well for you. Just remember that everyone has some different needs and you might need to tweak your diet a bit.

I posted this question in the gyno section but it hasn't gotten a response... so I thought I'ld try here, you are always fast to respond.

 

My husband has gyno and is going to wait a little while to get it fixed. He says sometimes it is more sensitive and sometimes more predominant. What are triggers that can cause the sensitivity? Food, supplements?

DP;  Once the gyno exists, it can become more sensitive from eating a lot of carbs and getting bloated.  It seems that water retention will make the nipple puffier and more sensitive.

When do you recommend taking IGF-L3 on non-training days?

DP:  Take it with breakfast and make sure you have a decent dose of carbs with it.

In your entire bodybuilding career what stack/cycle gave you the best results?

Other than liver toxicity is there any other reason why you would advise someone to not use an oral like dianabol?

DP:  My favorite cycle was 250mg of test and 75mg of tren of every other day.

Orals are liver toxic and less effective mg for mg.  Injectables are always more potent since more is absorbed into the blood stream and these levels are sustained for longer duration.

DP; For dieting purposes, it's all the same.

Is it O.K. to drink only Reverse Osmosis Filtered water?
DP: YES

 

Is it O.K. to add a little Baking Soda to the water to make it more alkaline?
DP:  It doesn't work that way and too much will give you awful diarrhea.  Get an alkalinizing water filter!

DP: Figure out a way to cook the yolks so you can eat them. Try to mix all the yolks and whites together with some stevia and cinnamon and make a pancake.  If you really hate them, substitute a chicken/nuts meal or shake meal instead.

The energy drink is not the best choice. It has too many stimulants.

DP:  Green tea is fine, but only add stevia if you need to sweeten it.  And it doesn't look like Species will have a booth at the Orlando Pro show.  I'll be at the EMERALD CUP in Seattle, WA.

DP:  Some people can't believe that I genuinely like to give so much to others.   It's because I believe that when you give to others, you receive more than you can ever dream of.

DP: I prefer a whey isolate with some added fats such as peanut butter or macadamia nut oil (which I now sell at www.speciesnutrition.com) to slow the absorption of the whey.

Is there any cycle that has little or no possibility of acne developing but able to give great gains in mass and strength?

 

I have been very prone to acne since teenage days... i got huge cystic acne on my face neck and back after my last test deca and dbol cycle.... i was desperate and got some accutane from my derm... was prescribed 90mg per day for 10 months.....

 

Have stopped accutane for 1 year...no acne up to now...

 

I'm thinking of starting another test E , EQ , dbol cycle.... but acne fear is holding me back.. i can't go to work looking like an alien... and I cant possible go back to my derm asking for accutane after being prescribed it just one year ago for 10 months...

DP:  Accutane is going to be your best bet.  Any cycle I would recommend is going to be much weaker than you're used to.  When you're prone to acne, something as weak as Anavar can trigger it.

Hi Dave I've been following your diet for three weeks and the first two weeks went great i lost 11lbs. this morning the day of my first cheat meal i weighed myself and i hadn't lost any weight. should i go ahead with the cheat meal?

 

Secondly, ive used vandyl sulphate in the off season and found it great for pumps etc. would have any benefit on your Keto diet despite having no carb intake??

DP:  If you have followed the diet perfectly for two weeks, go ahead with the cheat meal so you get a metabolic boost. 

Vanadyl sulfate is not necessary on a keto diet. Your insulin needs are minimal.

Will i notice any difference if i inject 250mg test cyp E3D instead of E5D ?

DP:  You should see a slight increase in lean mass and strength. The gains will come quicker because you are taking more.

Hey Dave, I know some people when getting 3-5 weeks out from a show like to replace their shakes with whole foods. Do you make your athletes do this or do you keep them on shakes 2-3 times a day all the way up to the show?

 

Also, how many days out do you carb up your athletes? How much fluids are they taking in on each day? Thanks alot Dave

DP:  I eliminate shakes the last day before the show. If you're using a quality protein powder there is no problem.

I add in carbs in the last 2 days only. Fluid intake is kept the same throughout and eliminated the night before the show.

How high dosages & length is needed for GH to increase bone density/thicker wrist and such ?
DP: At least 8-10 weeks of 2IU per day.

Hey Dave, I showed my nutrition professor your diet which I have been following and she got scared saying that ketosis is an abnormal and dangerous way of the body using fat as energy and that it is bad for the heart, she is preaching to every student about that glycemic index. What is that big deal with her?

DP:  Tell her that being fat, overweight, and eating sugar is "abnormal and dangerous".  Ketosis is perfectly safe and it's proven that the body can survive well without ever eating another gram of carbs.

I found some sort of supplement to substitute for waxy maize.

 

it contains dextrose, fructose, maltodextrin, etc but it's not all maltodextrin.

is this a good substitute?

DP:  I recommend using pure maltodextrin if you can't get WMS or Vitargo.  Or you can just have whole food (like rice or oats)

What is your opinion on taking bulk L-leucine powder post workout with whey isolate (~25gr)?
DP:  If you take a high quality whey isolate, it has plenty of LEUCINE already in there..

 

What is your opinion on Gemma Isolate (Pea Protein) as a protein source for 1-2 meals a day?

DP: Whey isolate has a better amino profile with much higher leucine content.  Plant sources of protein are far inferior to animal.

 

What is your opinion on Muti-Vitamins? (Do you recommend)

DP:  This seems accurate for what a lot of guys were doing at the time.  Notice the NOLVEDEX use and the old AROMATASE inhibitor TESLAC .....also, the BILL PHILLIPS CAFFEINE/EPHEDRA/ASPIRIN fat burning stack.

What are your thoughts on the ventrogluteal site for IM injections? Any tips for locating it?

DP:  It's okay.......... Most bbers avoid the glutes nowadays to avoid scar tissue buildup there.

DP: We still don't know enough about it to say how potent it really is.  Stick with HGH, its proven.

What kind of grip width would be ideal for both flat and incline bench for a bodybuilding training regimen?

DP:  Shoulder width!  Not too wide.

Hey Dave what would be the best exercises to perform that would hit my sweep on my legs for mass?

DP:  Most guys arent' lacking sweep.....they're lacking inner thigh (adductor) development.  Try opening up your stance while squatting.  If your legs are touching, how the heck are the adductors gonna work? Splay those legs open as you lower the weight.

I have a friend who has gout, I don't know how severe... he wants to lean out a bit. What do you suggest? Thanks

DP: He should eat frequent small meals. He needs to keep the portions of protein and fat small at each meal- just eat more meals.......maybe 8 little ones.

Hey Dave, I read one of your cycle recommendations of 2 iu's hgh per day with your aas. I also read a post by two moderators on this board that said you won't see any muscle gains from hgh unless you take 8-10 iu's per day. Is this true? I wouldn't ever consider taking hgh for anything other than muscle gain, that's way to expensive of a fat burner.

DP: Moderate doses of GH (2IU per day) taken for long periods (6 months) will yield good muscle gains and fat burning effects.  It's a misnomer that you must take 6IU per day to grow new muscle.  All you'll feel is bloated!

Hey Big Dave, how often did you have to cycle off and on when you where at your biggest? So if your over your genetic limit one will atrophy when not on a maintence dose correct? The reason I ask is because I see so many retired bodybuilders that become extremley small after competition. (not you) One to two grams of test is pretty common for bodybuilders today yes?

DP; Bodybuilders become smaller because they (1) stop eating the calories required to retain their size and (2) stop training with the same intensity.

Dave, so if you have about 10 grams of sugar, it will knock you out of ketosis?

 

Is it because the insulin spikes very fast?

DP: That 10g will get thrown in with the other carbs you have taken in and it might be enough to signal the brain that glucose is available and knock you out of ketosis.  It's not a sure thing.

Dave, can i use basmati rice as part of your off season diet and if so which one would be better, white or brown?

DP:  Basmati is fine. It doesn't matter which type.

Dave I read that you are coming out with Crealyze - a liquid creatine formula..

My question is: I thought Creatine was not stable in liquid form for very long and therefore impossible to sell in liquid. If this is a patent of some sort then why do you not sell it to coca-cola or a bottling company and become a millionaire overnight?

DP:  CREALYZE is a patented formulation that's both 100% solubilized and bioavailable creatine monohydrate.  As for selling it to COCA COLA or PEPSI, I don't think they're interested.

DP:  Amateurs are usually more grateful and I get a lot of pleasure out of helping them.  On the other hand, watching TONEY FREEMAN win a pro show is very gratifying as well.

Dave, i've never noticed you mention anything about massaging or perhaps visiting a chiropractitioner for a guy who works real hard at the gym? What's your view on having a regular massage (and what type of?) and/or spine adjustments by a chiropractor?

DP:  Regular deep tissue massages are great and can alleviate a ton of injuries.  And for any tweaks or pulls, I recommend you see and ART practitioner.

I'm following your 200lb diet but i work shifts..i can follow it to a T when i'm working days but how should i eat when i'm working nights as i would have already eaten everything listed in the diet during the day time.

DP:  If you have to add another shake in, then do it.  But you should still be getting enough sleep to make it work.

dave is my clen going to be work on me still? I know that most say to take it 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. I saw that you said that you can take it for the whole duration of contest prep like 16 weeks etc. The mistake i made was i ramped my dose up to the 120mcg within the first two weeks. Can i contiune to get results or do i need to cycle off of it? Thanks

DP: You need to just lower your dose right away and then build up again very gradually (add 20mcg every 2-3 weeks)

DP:  The problem is not going out of ketosis.  It's the extra calories that you don't need.

I say your layout for taking dyazide prior to your competetion, well I have this hook-up at this pharmacy and the person gave me this huge bottle of 1,000 dyazide but the dosage of the pills are Capsules: 37.5mg, 25 mg. How do you reccomend a break down of these dyazides for the show?

DP:  This is the typical size pill; you'll need to unscrew the capsule and dump half of it into your mouth.  Then close up the capsule and save the rest for later.

My training partner is experiencing elevated blood pressure since 2 days, is 140/100. He has never had this problem before. He is currently cycling Test Enanthate 250mg EOD and tren 75mg EOD and Dbol 30mg daily(he started Dbol recently aginst my advise). He is not using any kind of stimulants and arimidex( he is not prone to estrogenic side effects). I have asked him to get a kidney function test, Liver function test, Lipid profile, estradiol and complete blood picture.

1. Can he take Ditide to lower the BP, temporarily?

2. Whats the reason for his high blood pressure?

3. Which one of the above mentioned tests will indicate the reason?

4. What do you recommend he adds or subtract ( like supplements etc.) to improve his BP?

5. If he is diagnosed to have high blood pressure, then can he continue using steroids safely?

6. If yes, what precautions must he take to avoid high BP in the future?

DP: If the high blood pressure is constant, then he'll need to take meds which his doctor should prescribe to control it.  Those tests may not show anything. If he can control his BP while on gear, then I don't see a problem.

Is there any truth to the statement that coffee can reduce the chances of getting Alzheimer's and that the antioxidants would outweigh the negative effects of the caffeine stimulant. Could you suggest an alternative to coffee?

DP: A cup of coffee every day is not a big deal.  Just don't get crazy with the stimulants like some people do or you'll have problems with adding lean muscle.
