First off, hurray for a real NO BULL site again!

Dave, my question is how exactly does it feel to be in ketosis? i tried to stay low/no carbs and it just felt odd, i felt flat but i did notice some fat loss and 2nd, is there any science behind HUGE cravings for red meat while on a low/no carb diet? i seemed to wanna eat that shit by the lb, a far cry from my love for chicken

DP:  The first 5-7 days on a ketogenic diet feel crappy while your body switches over from using glucose to using ketones for fuel (especially the brain).  After this initially period you start to feel better than you ever did on a moderate carb diet. Your blood sugar is stable and therefore your mood and cravings do not go up and down.  Your strength also stays up.

Your cravings for red meat are normal - it has more fat and is more satisfying - your brain knows this and wants more.

Dave, what's your take on peanut oil. Can it be used in place of the mac oil?

DP: Peanut is a polyunsaturated fat which means that it's very sensitive to light and heat.  It's also predominantly omega-6 fats (which we get tons of anyway). Macadamia nut oil is a predominantly monounsaturated fat that is heat and light stable and delivers a large amount of metabolism boosting, heart healthy, omega-9 (monounsaturated fats)

Recently I was reading that you are promoting "novedex xt" to reduce estrogen levels. What are your thoughts on Gaspari's Halodrol ? I was thinking about using it because I can't get your Testostolyze over here (Germany)

DP:   I would recommend you use the Nolvadex XT.  The new Halodrol has 6-oxo in a "proprietary formula".  When a company says that an ingredient is contained in a proprietary formula, it usually means it contains very little of that ingredient.  Nolvadex XT is a potent anti-estrogen.

Dave do you have any recommendations towards AAS cycles for a competitive powerlifter? What are your thoughts on staying on cycle and switching compounds as a comp closes in?

I SAY WAXY MAIZE STARCH IS THE BEST CARBOHYDRATE REPLACEMENT SUPPLEMENT CURRENTLY ON THE MARKET!


Some people would say otherwise. In fact, these few people with their own personal agendas have attacked waxy maize starch (WMS) and called it inferior to other carb sources. They argue that WMS has a lower glycemic index than sugar and Vitargo (their stuff). While it might be a few points lower (but no one has tested it), the fact remains that it's still an extremely high glycemic carb and that's all that really matters. The insulin response from WMS is more than enough to drive nutrients into muscle cells at the highest rate necessary. What these critics ignore is the fact that WMS is an extremely high molecular weight carb-- higher than maltodextrin, sugar, or any other readily available carb. It's the high molecular weight (or size) of the WMS that enables it to rapidly pass through the stomach and digestive tract and draw amino acids, glucose, water, and other supplements with it through the digestive tract, into the bloodstream, and into the muscle cells where it then speeds the repair and synthesis of new muscle tissue.

WMS and Vitargo both create enough of an insulin response and both have a high enough molecular weight to clearly make it superior to maltodextrin or dextrose (sugar). This means that the final measure must be taste and mixability. In that department, WMS wins by a long shot. It mixes easily and goes down much smoother than Vitargo. It also costs a lot less than Vitargo! You decide!

Dave, what is the maximum period of not taking Creatine Monohydrate, before you would have to do loading phase again?

DP:  You never have to do a loading phase.  Just go back to your regular dose of 5g, twice per day. Your muscle creatine will be saturated in a few days.  Once my new CREALYZE (liquid creatine product) hits the stores, you'll only need a single dose per day.  This stuff is 100% absorbable.

Now I wanna drop the nolva and use HCG , arimidex and Clomid for PCT...

My question is...do I use HCG right after my last shot of Test enanthate ( at 2000iu EOD for 2 weeks.. ) .. OR... wait till its half life is over which means start it together with arimidex and clomid at 14th day after last injection

DP:  Taper off the test for two weeks (cut your dose in half for one week, then in half again). At the end of the taper, immediately start the HCG.

Hi Dave, I asked you a question about natural peanut butter, I live in the uk, when I ask for it, staff look at me like I'm mad. Most supermarkets sell the bad one.

But I think I found a place that does it, will to check it out.

 

1) If the normal peanut butter is taken. What are the worst health effects?

2) For my last meal, i think the amount of chicken i have contains between 50-70g of protein, is this ok

DP:  Weigh your food.  I give exact amounts in the diets listed at the beginning of the thread.  As for the Peanut Butter - "regular" PB has sugar and it will slow down your progress while dieting.  If you can't get all natural PB, make your own by grinding up regular peanuts.

DP:  There is no formula to the adjustments I make.  The reason I give out my diet plan is because I believe that all knowledge should be free.  My usefulness as a dieting coach is how I tweak the diet and program to keep the weight loss consistently coming off.  Each client gets individualized adjustments each week based on progress.  There is no set rules.

Dave, are you a believer in the conventional 2 weeks on 2 weeks off when using clenbuterol? If not, how would you advise cycling it?

DP:  I recommend that my clients take clenbuterol every day for the entire diet period (16- 20 weeks). Start off at a dose of 20mcg per day and increase by 20mcg every 2-3 weeks as progress slows. The maximum dose I recommend is 120mcg per day (always taken in 20mcg doses).

DP:  Someday when John gets up to NY we'll get it done.

Hey Dave, whats your opinion on Coconut Oil? Am I able to use it while on your diet? Congrats on the new site!

DP: Coconut oil is high in Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) which are metabolized as quickly as carbs (probably faster).  Since they're fats, they don't raise blood sugar; therefore, they are definitely usable on my ketogenic diet.  The problem with MCTs are that they are not essential fats (or even heart healthy for that matter).  Given this truth, I'd much rather see you supplement with macadamia nut oil or extra virgin olive oil.

"12. Don't eat before bed. Sleep uses little fuel- those calories are going to get stored somewhere, since there isn't much of a chance they'll be burned. At least two hours should pass between eating and sleeping."

Do you agree?

DP: I like to eat before bed; it gives you one last shot of aminos to repair and build muscle while you sleep.

"17. Eat foods high in fiber. Salads, leafy green vegetables, etc. fill you up with good colon-cleaning bulk with barely negligible calories."

Do you agree? Fiberlyze.

DP:  Of course, this is why I created FIBERLYZE.

"33. Spice up your food and drink green tea. Cayenne pepper, ginger, chili powder and picante sauce not only make meals interesting without adding significant calories, but studies have shown that these spices as well as green tea have a thermogenic effect that helps burn more fat."

Do you agree?

DP:  I don't think it will have a huge effect, but it won't hurt.

"40. Make soup. The main ingredient in soup is water. Water has no calories. The calorie allotment for one meal can be stretched quite far by making soup out of it. A pile of veggies, a chicken breast combined with three or four cups of de-fatted chicken broth, make a huge, satisfying, low calorie meal that takes a long time to eat."

Do you agree?

DP:  Low calories are still extra calories. If you want optimal results you have to follow the plan exactly.

DP:  Right now we are sticking with our grass roots strategy to get the products to the people.  A huge retail chain could not sell our products at a reasonable price and make a decent profit.

Dave I love broccoli and eat alot of it, does this veggie fit into your diet at all?

DP:  If you are on the protein/veggie days you can have one serving as your vegetable.

Hi Dave, I have some questions about fats. Can you recommend the best balanced ratio of omega 3s to 6s for good gains?

DP: 1:1 taking into consideration your entire diet.....however, since most protein foods have extra Omega-6, we like to recommend more omega-3s.  (1.5:1)

And a good to balance for types of fats (Monounsaturated, Polyunsaturated, Saturated ) John Berardi says 1/3 of each some say more mono other recommend more poly what's your opinion?
 
DP:  Mostly monounsaturated (Mac Oil)....... Moderate amount of polyunsaturates (Omega-6 and Omega-3) and minimal saturated fats.

I read somewhere that flax or flax oil can increase you estrogens is that true? do I have to worry about it i'm using 2tablespoons per day.

 

And what are the best way to use eca 2days on 1 off, 3 on 1 off , 5on 2 off etc? Any thoughts?
DP: Take them every day!

Hi Dave, just to be clear I want to make sure this is ok for your 200 LB Cutting Ketogenic Diet. Everything is the same, save I substitute Macadamia Nut oil for the PB, I know you said it could be used in place but I'm not sure if ALL peanut butter/protein shake meals can be replaced with Mac Nut Oil. I guess what I'm getting at is, will it all still be optimal ?

DP: The macadamia nut oil is fine.

Also, can I eat Asparagus in place of the salad; if not that's fine, just curious.

DP:  Stick with the salad.

 

One more thing, right before bed I take Beta-Alanine, Creatine, ZMA, Animal Pak, BCAAs, EAAs, Fish Oil, Primrose Oil, and a Joint Supplement. Is all of that ok ?

 

DP: You should take the Beta-Alanine, Creatine, Animal Pack, EFA's, and Joint Supp with a meal. The ZMA can be taken on an empty stomach. You don't need the extra aminos if you have a solid diet.

Hey Dave I see that you say not to use Splenda when doing your diet. Is Equal ok or is that really the same?

DP:  All of the commercial artificial sweeteners that come in a powder form (in packets) use maltodextrin as a binder. STEVIA packets use INULIN FIBER as a binder and that's not absorbable.  The sucrolose and aspartame in diet soda and protein powders are fine!

Dave, what does one take right after the workout while on your diet?

DP: On my diet, post-workout you eat one of your 6 meals. There is no "post-workout meal."

what does a top level pro cycle look like without using igf-1 hgh and insulin?

DP:  I would recommend to a pro or serious competitor 250mg Test and 200mg of Deca or 200mg of EQ every other day.

A friend of mine is using Gaspari Mitotropin while dieting.Would it be safe for him to include Lipolyze in there as a stack or would that be a problem since they different forms of uncouplers and Gaspari has diiodothyronine while Lipolyze has guggulsterones?Is it unsafe to take together or should he wait to be done with the Mitotropin then use Lipolyze?Thanks.

DP: I would not recommend using the products together; however, it probably would work well. Remember that LIPOLYZE has no stimulants so it's a better choice to use throughout the day and night.

When in your career did you and what was the defining moment that made you switch to the keto style diet you follow?

DP: It was a gradual learning process, but in 1996 after coming in way too flat at the NPC USA, I started eating more fats in my diet (from red meat and swordfish) in preparation for the 1996 Nationals. What I realized was that I felt better eating NO CARBS then moderate carbs.  That's when I knew I was onto something.  I came in 4th at the Nationals (behind Cutler, Prince, and Orville Burke)-my first top 5 placing at a pro-qualifier-and I was sold on the high protein/moderate fat/low carb diet.

Was thinking of doing my first cycle of test 250 mg, deca 200 mg once a week for 14 weeks and the "possiblity" of using Igf1 along with the protocol you have written about it. I figured i would start at a low mg level now so that in later cycles my body would adjust to gradually higher levels over time and slowly build up, as opposed to starting out at higher mg levels and needing more and more everytime. what are your thoughts and should the test and deca be taken twice a week?

DP:  Your gains will be minimal on this cycle; you should take the dose you mentioned twice per week. As long as you run a proper PCT and give yourself enough of a break, you'll never become desensitized.

Hi dave, ive got a really painful front delt on my right side. It all started after an intese flat bench session about a month ago. My right collar bone smarts too. Any tips on how to heal up and continue to work the muscle enough to put on size? I might be asking for a little much here, but your the man.

DP:  I would lay off flat benches for a while. Start with inclines and make sure you're warmed up.

Do you know of any supplements/herbs (other than pot) that can help to stimulate a person's appetite?
DP:  Vitamin B-12 works for some people.  Stay away from oral steroids!

I was looking at a package of spinach, and it seems so high in fiber compared to the carbs, it seems like it would be equivalent (if not better) of using instead of something like metamucil? What is the reason I wouldn't be able to have some fresh spinach with let's say chicken and nuts meal?

 

Another question about carbs and fiber.

When we count our carbs for the day and meal, do we count "net carbs" as in carbs-fiber or do we count just carbs, even if part is fiber? I really want to make sure I stay in ketosis.

 

DP: Metamucil and my FIBERLYZE contain psyllium husk, which is the most dense form of soluble fiber available.  The fiber in psyllium is 35x more potent than that in spinach (on a gram for gram basis)

When you count carbs you count all food and supplements and subtract the fiber.

DP: That's fine!  Colette is addicted to "Nancy's" brand.

I have finally come to admit that i am going bald. im only young(early 20's) and have never used AAS or anything P/H like before....i remember reading a while back about some hairloss drugs that interfere with muscle gain...is there anything i can do or i am just fucked and need to shave my head? would taking something like Testostolyze help with its DHT blocker or not?

Also, what do you think about donating blood? Obviously i wouldn't go an hour before a big leg workout, however i have a rare blood type and i am feeling charitable. Or is this a big no no if i am trying to gain size(off season)?

DP: Giving blood is a noble thing; it won't cripple you, but it might slow you down for at least a day.  If you were a professional endurance athlete, I would certainly advise against it.  But, as a bodybuilder, it's probably healthy to give blood once in a while.  As for the hairloss, TESTOSTOLYZE will help; however, depending on your case you might need a prescription drug like Propecia (finasteride).

DP: No, you get plenty of aminos from your meals. These calories are unnecessary.

I'm currently on week 5 of 300 mg of test eod and 50 mg of tren ed.

I've noticed very little in the way of sides and can now almost see my body changing on a daily basis BUT I've started to have acne issues on my arms. Is this likely to be estrogen related and should I be thinking about adding adex eod?

DP: The acne is a side effect of high testosterone, not estrogen.  You should still consider using Arimidex or TESTOSTOLYZE to make sure you're optimizing your testosterone and not losing it to estrogen and DHT.

I've generally been a gallon of milk a day guy when gaining weight and found it quite effective. Is there a significant advantage to a ketogenic diet in weight gain and if so what is it?

DP: The ketogenic diet is for fat loss (weight loss).

DP: No , they're useless. You need to be disciplined and avoid the carbs.

Dave, when on your diet, other than WPI, what would the supplement regiment look like. I mean as far as Omegas, and EFAs. Given the oils and fats being ingested through food, would I need it, and how much would I need?

DP:  You should take an EFA blend such as my OMEGALYZE twice per day. You want to ingest 6-8 grams of supplemental omega 3 and omega 6 EFA's each day.

Dave whats your thoughts on using insulin to reach ketosis quicker when running your diet?

DP: It's unnecessary; my diet keeps you in ketosis all week except for the cheat meal. For that one meal you don't have to worry about ketosis. Your want the meal to take its regular course and I guarantee you'll be back in ketosis by the next day.

I am a new member so I am apologizing ahead of time for my dumb question. What is the difference between Omega-3 eggs and regular eggs? (Do regular eggs have any Omega-3 in them?).

DP:  The omega3 and omega6 ratio is flipped around in the omega3 eggs (Omega-3 Eggs have more omega3's than 6s).

dave- is it worth running insulin without GH? while on a cycle of course, example 500mg test cyp wk, tren ace 75eod?

DP;  I don't recommend insulin to the average bodybuilder. Unless you have a really freaky metabolism, insulin will just make you fat.
