In the second largest steroid bust in United States history, a multi-jurisdictional task force including members of the IRS, DEA, and FDA made 53 arrests ending this morning at 4.30 AM. According to DEA spokesperson Rusty Payne, 53 people have been arrested and charged with arrestvarious steroid, growth hormone, and related drug offenses in the Southern District of Texas, and 22 will additionally face Federal charges. The investigation began in ‘06 with a smaller bust that ultimately led authorities to the arrests made today.

Among the anabolic steroids and growth hormone, ecstacy, hydrocodone and viagra were also involved in the alleged drug trafficking, which included hundreds of thousands of dosage units.

Right now, it appears that at least one professional bodybuilder, personal trainers, pharmacists, numerous amateur bodybuilders, and two firefighters have been arrested in the operation.

The charges break down something like this:

Houston case-

State charges: Texas, Louisiana, Indiana
Federal charges: Texas, California, Georgia

Just in case you're not up to speed on the situation in Texas, prior to this bust, here's some choice exerpts from past blogs I've written:

October 21, 2008: There are busts every other week in Texas around the Houston/Dallas area (which are connected by one very long stretch of road called I-45). This is going on because of three people turned informants that where taken down in September - and at least 8 people busted in Operation Raw Deal were Texas residents (including the deceased David Jacobs). For the most part, two of the guys in Houston fully are at the DEA's mercy - I'm not sure about the third. Some people are saying that it's gotten so bad that he wouldn't be surprised if some of the local NPC and IFBB area shows are completely gone by this time next year.

October 23, 2008: I bet the Houston/Texas area is in trouble right now

January 28th, 2009: I've been telling you for months that a lot more busts will be coming out of Texas, and I stand by that claim.

And now, of course, I'd like to offer the ceremonial:

I was right again..

and of course - I told you so.
