Whey Protein May Prsuperteinotect Against Prostate Cancer

Research conducted by Ohio State University suggests that whey protein may have a protective effect on prostate cancer. Researchers treated two groups of prostate cancer cells with solutions of whey protein for 48 hours. At the conclusion of the observation period researchers measured levels of cellular glutathione, a potent anti-oxidant that is both fat and water soluble, allowing it to pass freely through all cells. The team found that cellular concentrations of glutathione increased by 64%, thus increasing the cells capacity to handle oxidative stress. Increasing anti-oxidant levels, especially potent anti-oxidants such as glutathione, eliminates disease causing free radicals in the body and promotes health at the cellular level.

New Form Of Genetically Modified Wheat Puts Humans At Risk

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Orggmo-wheatanization (CSIRO) in Australia has released a report detailing the potentially deadly impact of a new form of genetically modified wheat. The process known as methylation is essentially responsible for “turning on” or “turning off” genes in the body. The new form of wheat being produced by Monsanto has been engineered to “turn off” genes of insects that typically feed on the crop resulting in genetic damage to the insect that will stunt its growth and cause it to die. Australian researchers found that the same gene can be impacted in both insects and humans if ingested, and state that the resulting damage from feeding on these crops will assuredly result in epigenetic damage. Children born with epigenetic damage caused by this particular form of wheat will most likely die by age five, says Professor Jack Heinemann at the University of Canterbury's Centre for Integrated Research in Biosafety.

Eating More Fruit Lowers Risk Of Deadly Aneurism

Studies published in the journal Cfruit20trayirculation have found a correlation between eating more fruit, and lowering the risk of a potentially deadly aneurism known as an abdominal aortic aneurism. Researchers divided nearly 80,000 participants between the ages of 46-84 and analyzed participants according to the amount of fruits and vegetables they reported eating. According to the data those who ate less than one serving of fruit daily had a 25% higher risk of aneurism and a 43% higher risk for suffering a rupture as a result of the aneurism than those who reported consuming more than two servings of fruit daily. Researchers found no correlation between vegetable intake and risk of aneurism.

New Drug Mimics Exercise In The Body600full-mighty-mouse-artwork

Another drug reported to mimic the beneficial effects of exercise on the body is in the process of being developed at the Scripts Research Institute (TSRI). Currently the drug has only been tested on mouse models, but researchers have found that mice taking the drug become leaner, develop larger muscles, and have the ability to run farther. Studies indicate that the drug has the ability to increase metabolic rate, and researchers noted that even mice restricted from exercise demonstrated the ability to run up to 50% farther than when previously tested. Researchers hope to begin a human clinical trial with a small controlled sample size in the near future.

Dietary Supplements Reduce Oxidative Stress And DNA Damage

The online journal Caner, Epidemiology, Biomarkers, and Prevention recently released a study touting the effects of dietary supplements and their ability to reduce oxidative stress and DNA damage. A tesupplement-stoream of researchers surveyed 209 participants to collect data about their use of glucosamine, chondroitin, CoQ10, MSM, ginseng, garlic, ginko, and saw palmetto. Participants then submitted urine samples for researchers to analyze levels of oxidative stress, and blood samples to allow researchers to measure white blood cells and check for damaged DNA. Results showed that glucosamine users had a 40% reduction in oxidative stress levels, chondroitin users had a 47% reduction in oxidative stress levels, and those who used fiber supplements also showed a 43% reduction in oxidative stress levels. Users of CoQ10 showed a remarkable 58% reduction in DNA damaged compared to non-users.
